Hey so I'm trying to remember when I first began taking wellbutrin what the healthy dose is to start. I think they started me on 100mgs for like a week? er something but would it be safe to start taking wellbutrins with the 150 mgs? and if so how long... but if not... why not? Like what would be the side affects?
Thanks

You need to consult your doctor.

I am currently taking 300 mg Wellbutrin. I have been taking it for 6 months. I really helps a lot with the depression but the side effects are what I can't deal with. I just went to the doctor today about it and she switched me to a different medication (cymbalta).
The side effects that I have are
1) Forgetfulness
2) electric "zaps" in my hands and feet
3) worst of all - major hair loss

I have lost so much hair while taking this medication. I used to have very thick hair and now I can actually see my scalp in some spots on my head. My hair is also very brittle and dull now.

I really liked the way that Wellbutrin worked on my depression. like I said, it really helped. Being a 24 year old female though I cannot continue to just let my hair fall out.

I had no weight gain or weight loss on wellbutrin but I think it has helped me to maintain my weight.

Good luck~ hopefully you don't get the bad side effects that I have had with it. I've heard from a lot of people who have not had any. In fact, I was one of those people up until about 2 months ago.

I would talk to your psychotrist about what the healthy dose for you may be...I started off on 100 mg and then went up to 150 mg and then they put me up to 300mg and now after 2 and a half years on it i have spent the last year and a half completely off of it. It just depends on how much of it you yourself needs to battle what is going on. Good luck with all that does happen.

With drugs like this they often start with a higher dose called a loading dose, then cut back the dosage. Taking more would NOT be safe without consulting your doctor. Also, it can take a few weeks to start to feel an effect. Relax, follow the plan your doctor set up and don't expect an instant miracle.

Side affects: insomnia, general emotional numbness, being incoherant, loss of libido, death if you take too much

got this from the wellbutrin xl website....http://www.wellbutrin-xl.com/prescribed/dosing_information.html

the dosing info is:
Dosing Information

WELLBUTRIN XL is available in 150-mg and 300-mg tablets. The starting dose is 150 mg per day, which your doctor may increase to the usual adult dose of 300 mg per day. The maximum dosage for WELLBUTRIN XL is 450 mg per day. Taking doses greater than 450 mg per day may increase the chance of having serious side effects, including seizures. Always make sure that you take WELLBUTRIN XL as prescribed by your doctor. If you have questions regarding your dose, talk to your doctor.

I started on 300mg a per day and felt fine (I was experiencing extreme depression though). I don't think it would be unsafe to take 150, but this is a question for which you'd probably be wise to consult your doctor.
