And do you think I am too old to get them? I am 23 years old, but I can afford them now, and was planning to get them put on this month. Just curious of how many adults get them.

They hurt a little when they get put on, and each month when they get tightened. I was about your age when I had mine - it's definately worth it. The pain will only last a couple of days and it's more like a tenderness. Just make sure you have softer foods for those days. Good luck!

Well congrats! Being able to finally afford braces is a big thing. Many adults get braces because of the same reason...money.
Getting braces doesn't hurt too bad unless your teeth are sensitive. It's usually "after the fact" when the discomfort settles in. I would suggest taking some Tylenol or similar about 30-45 mins prior to the appointment to help out.
Good luck!

It was uncomfortable when I first had mine put on at age 16. You get used to it though. If I could do it all over again I would and I would take better care of my braces this time. I had porcelain brackets and they were awful. If your orthodontist has given this to you as an option, just say no. They get stained over time and since the brackets are bigger then the traditional metal, it takes longer for any gaps to close in your teeth. One of the worst decisions I ever made, but at the point in my life I was more concerned with how I looked in the moment, not the future.

I had them when I was 40, and I've always been SO glad I did that. You will be happy, too.

It doesn't hurt to have them put in. But you might be surprised at how bumpy and painful they are at first.
They will scar the inside of your cheeks, and are quite difficult to get used to, at first. They will give you wax to put over them, to help you get used to them, and it's a good idea to use that.

The other things that I found very helpful when I had braces was a water pik and a soothing mouth gel.
I bought an OxyCare3000 from Oxyfresh. That really helps because flossing is so hard with braces.
Oxyfresh also sells a very good gel in a tube that is very soothing for mouth sores.

I got my braces back when I was 16 but I didn't get them off until I was 22, I remember that it wasn't the procedure of getting the braces that caused me discomfort but the fact that they are designed to move your teeth. The pain was just the muscles in my mouth getting used to being stretched and I got used to it...Just think of it this way....You are the one that would benefit from the braces(otherwise why get them in the first place)not other people. It is very common for adults to get braces, partially because they are costly and partially because we didn't necessarily have a opportunity while we were younger to get them. Ultimately your the one that needs to feel comfortable with You. I mean you shouldn't live your life by what is considered normal...Just be yourself and do whats right for you!!

Alot of adults get them, It does not matter the age, its just smart that you would want to correct the problem that you have with your teeth. They really dont hurt when you first get them on, just a little uncomfortable. The worst part is when you have to go to your appts every month and they have to adjust the wires and tighten them. I got my braces on when I was 16. Good Luck

Oh, don't worry about your age when you get braces- I got mine when I was 18(on the brink, but nevertheless) and I have seen people as old as 35 get it. It can be painful and uncomfortable in the beginning but as the time goes by, you'll get used to it and it won't seem so bothersome. Actually, when I got my braces out, I somehow missed them(Heheheh)- my mouth felt empty somehow.

They will probably hurt a little to be put in, and a little till your gums heal. You are not too old to get them, lots of adults get them, it is worth the discomfort and awkwardness to have a straight and healthy smile. Be brave, it will be over before you know it :O)

I had braces when I was a teenager and it was an awful experience.
BUT for one thing I now have great teeth. People even comment on the fact that I have great teeth.
For another thing it was the late 70's when I had braces. I would expect that things have improved by now.
