I just want to read the bible without knowing where I am in the book. I may sound silly, but numbering every sentence breaking every few paragraphs down into chapters is really distracting. I just want to read what was written, nothing else.

Sure. A number of the modern translations have no chapter or verse markings.

Try the web link below. You can search or read by verse or chapter in 20 different versions. Try putting in a search for a chapter in each version. Then pick the version that works for your reading style. At least that way you will know what version you might feel most comfortable with and then know which one to purchase for yourself.

I have found this site very helpful, I hope you will too.

There might just be, because the original version of the bible did not have these they were added by man after the printing press.

Look at Family Christian Bookstore online or Focus on the Family had and amazing bookstore as well.

I have seen some versions that have the verse numberings buried in the text and thus it is easier to read. Try the NKJV or perhaps the NAS. I'm partial to the NAS myself.

Men divided the Bible into Chapter and Verse. Were they Inspired of GOD to do it? Don't know.

They make Bibles without all of that.
