For my annual physical this year, rather than to just listen to my heart with his stethescope, my doctor said it was time for an EKG. I am 45. Is this routine?

Pretty much routine these days hun, more and more people are having heart disease earlier and earlier! I had my heart attack at 36, and trust me, they didnt' want to believe me.

So best case scenario, is that your doctor now has a 'look' at how your heart normally functions. That will indicate any problems down the line, and I consider that 'thorough' and that will be a life saver later!

I guess it's pretty routine now. I have very slight high blood pressure and my doctor took an EKG. I'm only 36. She said it was to compare EKGs in the future to. At the time I too thought it was unnecessary. It was nice to hear that everything looked good though.

in this day and age, your doctor is to be commended for PREVENTATIVE examinations.

Great call on his part.

So many illnesses could be caught early if more doctors spent that extra 10 minutes doing preventative exams.
