Based on your statements, I'd say your faith there isn't a god is exactly the same as the faith that their is a god.

It's all part of the "Great Commission" - go out and spread the Good News. All Christians do it, to their own degrees. It would be like asking a Muslim, "Why do you pray so many times a day?" It's just part of their religion. Or asking why a Hindu thinks cows are so important. It's part of their religion. If you asked a Christian on the street about their religion, they'd, to some degree, tell you about their experience. When you ask a question on Yahoo Answers, your profile is coming over to MANY people. Plus, we have Paul in our history - the man who spread the Good News all over the known world at the time. He was really against Christianity at first - when the leaders of the time stoned Stephen for being a Christian, Paul held their cloaks and watched! So if Paul could have a conversion experience, we reason anybody can. That's why we try.

There is a significant difference between the logical, critical and analytical thought processes which Atheists employ (the ones I know at least, I can not speak for you personally) and the spiritual, visionary and prophetic processes used by Theists (Christians more specifically). We speak a different language. It is very difficult for Christians to understand you and vice versa. I would very much like for you to understand my point of view if you do not already. I would love to engage you in conversation where we both listen but not necessarily in "debate" because when we argue it turns out more often than not that neither one of us is listening. Often I find Atheists as stubborn if not more so than the Bible thumping Baptists who most often debate with them. NO OFFENSE INTENDED TO EITHER ATHEISTS OR BAPTISTS. One of my chess buddies is an Atheist and we have had some very interesting conversations over the chess board, each of us talking and trying to make our point while the other is contemplating a move. The point of this is two fold. First to speak without interuption so that we have a civil discussion and also so that we might distract one another so as to get the better game.
Christians try to convert you because they think you are gonna go to Hell. If you thought someone was in such grave danger as that you might be likewise inclined to by any means convince them to believe as you do. Does that sound reasonable?

I did. I go to a brainwashing Catholic school, but I started coming on Yahoo! Answers about a year ago. I was particularly drawn to the Religion & Spirituality section, because it made me question what I believed and what I was being taught. It questioned my faith a lot, but I was scared to stop calling myself a Christian, because like most, I was brainwashed into being terrified of spending eternity in hell, if I didn't believe. I don't know what the exact turning point was, but I am an Atheist now. Questions and answers in Yahoo! Answers, certainly contributed to that. I have no doubts in what I believe anymore, which just happens to be that a god isn't real. I don't fear life and death anymore, which is like a huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders. I still go to that school, but just take what they say with a pinch of salt now. I'm a lot happier now, that I don't have to live my life, fearing a magic sky fairy. I am free. I am free to live my life the way I want. I still have morals and standards, possibly more now than I did as a Christian, because I know I'm the only one that can forgive myself. I have to answer for my own actions, instead of believing that as long as I pray, all will be forgiven. It scares me to think that I believed in a religion that was meant to be about love, only out of fear of what would happen if I didn't. It made me realise religion isn't actually about love at all, but about controlling the masses. I love life a lot more, since I became an atheist too, because I realise you only have one and have to make the most of it. The best thing is just being able to live, instead of preparing for an eternity that is never going to happen.

We can't convert, God does this all we can do is answer your questions the best we can. And as Christians we answer with the knowledge we have. So if you don't want Christians to answer your questions don't ask questions in Religion /Spirituality.
Is it OK for Muslims, Jews and the followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster to try and convert you? Just not Christians right.

If you are complaining about conversion attempts then it doesn't make sense to be in this catergory of Bible questions. Why are you here posting then? Are you trying to convert people to atheism but don't want the same treatment- a double stndard if that is so. If you really don't want conversion attempts then you can always withdraw from these type of categories-right? Praying for you anyway.

plz read this thru. fair enough; but I really wonder; is your mind set on Atheism or are you really open to religion? I'd think you'd have heard enough about religion (at least Christianity) to make your mind up in regards to it. Despite that I will honestly, and logically explain why *I* believe God exists. Yes it is miraculous that bees and ants form complex societies; and yes religion does fill that empty gap in a life with no meaning because there is no ending. But there is more to it than the beauty that touches only the religious; there is a side of religion that appeals to Atheists--the scientific explanation. Now, lets look at the beginning of the universe (big Bang). Before the unexplainable "spark" that triggered the Big Bang the universe was about the size of a Bee bee. Immediately after (approximately 10^-43 of a second) the universe started to expand. But what about that unaccounted fraction of a second? What could have possibly caused this reaction? Then we come to another scientific miracle--polypeptide chains forming proteins in our DNA. The chances of 500 codons matching up in exact correct sequence will anti-codons is so unlikely it is virtually impossible (100^950)! Lastly I will briefly discuss Darwinism; a theory with many flaws. Darwin himself states "If numerous species, belonging to the same genera..started...all at once...(it)...would be fatal to the theory of descent...through natural selection." We see the Cambrian explosion an unexplained occurence in nature when distinct species emerged simultaneously without predeccors. This foiled Darwin's theory who later himself said "It is as though they (the species of the Cambrian) were just planted there, without any evolutionary history." The man who invented the theory himself had doubts too! I don't know about you but it takes a lot more blind faith to believe that somehow mother nature has evolved or is innately programmed to function so exactly and perfectly; and a lot more evidence indicates the existence of a higher being. Believing otherwise is just denying the natural instincts of your soul. Peace. Plz think about this with an open mind. Sorry about its length. :-)

Not here to convert. I'm just here to help answer questions. I do, however, get some emails from people who think Mormons aren't Christians and don't read the Bible. What do you think, do we have something in common?

Hey jim_darwin, please please read... no this is not a sermon or an attempt to convert you...
I am a Christian, I am not saying that I am perfect, by no means... I am a sinner, just as you are. No don't deny it. If you have lied, stolen-( worth doesn't matter- gumb, pen, paperclip), hated someone, (which Jesus said hate was murder commited in the heart)... looked with lust...( adultery with your heart) or wanted other peoples stuff, or said something false about someone else... then join the club- you are a fellow sinner. It doesn't matter how many times that you have sined... you still are a sinner- as am I.
However there is one thing that is the difference between me and you. No, it is not because I do good and go to church... not because I have a Bible... no, God doesn't love me any more than He loves you.
The Difference is... that I accepted God's gift- His Son... Jesus... I realized that I am a sinner, and that I cannot work away my sin with good deeds...
only God's mercy saved me[Jesus]... He is a gift... a gift cannot be obtained.... only recieved...
And it is a choice to recieve it...
No it is not religion... it is relationship...with God via Christ...
I know I sound crazy to you. But let me ask you a question- again I am not trying to covert... just please read the rest... thanks...
Ok here is the question:
So we all will die one day... here are the possiblities...
Senario #1: I am a Christian- you are an Athiest... we die and there is no after life.... that's it.. we were pretty good all around... that is it...
Senario #2: A religion other than Christianity turns out to be true... most relgions believe in doing good... so we have done good... we are safe...
Senario #3: Christianity is True... I know Christ... I have asked God for forgiveness... I am saved -not by my hand- by by God's mercy and my choice to recieve that mercy... You on the other hand have refused God and His Son altogether... you never wanted to love Him ... therefore He cannot force you to live with Him... by your own choice you have rejected God... and He lets you go... and you walk into hell... He never forced you to go there. But you cannot simply live with God... for He is Holy... and you have sin in you, so you couldn't live in His presence anyway...
Now here is the question; Are you so confident, that there is not a possiblity of God or an afterlife? You are gambling... taking a huge risk... I am not.. either way I am ok[ I still believe that the outcome is the 3rd Senario]
Now this is not funny... I don't want you to choose Hell and reject God... so you can imagine my horror when I know that is what may happen...
I don't want you to choose not to recieve forgiveness... You are a human being... AND trust me... If it would be possible... I would take your place in Hell if I could... forever in pain and without love... because God is love.
But I cannot trade places with you... Jesus already did that.... but He never sined so that is why He is in Heaven
He died just for you... not to mention the rest of the world...
So you can understand in knowing what I know.... why I try at any opertunity to witness to you about Christ... I am not premoting religion- I Am concerned with your eternal soul...
That is why we are so desperate to tell you about God's love and His Son...
But I cannot force Jesus down your throat because being saved, forgiven, and loved by God is a choice...
It is a choice that you have to make or forsake...
He is more real than our life here on earth... i just wanted to give you a heads up...
It is your call and your decision...
everything is on the table...
God bless you and yours,
I am praying for you...
a Christian

8 days short of my 53 birthday at 6 am I would have made comments about "converting" much as you do... I wanted nothing to do with all that Bible thumping crap.... at 8am I was a Bible thumper... I have been of The True Christian Faith for just over 6 1/2 yrs... no turn'n back for me... If I meet ones like I was and as you are now... at the apropriate time I make it known that I am of The Christian Faith and offer to make information avilable concerning The Faith. If I am told ' no thank you" I let it go and that is the lasy I will bring it up.... I can not convert anyone... if you are not receptive to God's call that is your loss...
Got an honest qestion concerning the basics of The True Christian Faith?.... email me.... no spam from me...one question, one answer.

while you may be set in your atheistic beliefs, you have posted your question so that maybe a curious athiest / agnostic can read our answers, therefore they should be able to read both sides of the discusions. I haven't e-mailed anyone who doesn't have a serious question though. You should make it clear that you know all about the issue and your just looking for supporting answers rather than wanting a christian veiw. While I would still respond to the question I would not worry about making sure that I reach to you with whatever answer that could change one's mind on a subject
