When I stay at my parents house my face and neck get covered with hives. Then they get dry and itchy and my eyes get puffy. It can take up to three weeks to get back to normal. I've heard of people being allergic to water but what causes it? Some certain mineral content? I'm fine at home and i live in the city, they are out in the country on well water.
Please help if you know anything. Thanks guys & gals!

same thing happened to me at my great aunts who lives in a very rural area in kentucky, the water came right up from the ground pretty cold, and tasted really good and clean, but smelled like pennies. It made me have similar symptoms but i never figured it out, i just bought water at the wal-mart after the second time it happened and i was sure the water was the culprit. good luck

You are right it is the mineral in the water. if they are near the coast or in the southern end of Georgia, Alabama, Miss, ect. it could be lime in the water., or iron. Many people have to have filters to remove the lime deposits or to change hard water.
I have the same problem and it's the lime in the water. it's the same in the city or the country for.
When at your grand parents take your own drinking water. How ever it is probley the bath that gets you.
I found out that if I take a cool bath instead of a hot one I don't have the problem. Or I can take a warm bath and just before gettng out use cold water and dail soap. That stops the itching for me.
It's the hot water and lime mix.

Considering the human body is mostly made up of water, being allergic to it is impossible. You are probably allergic to something in the water. Have the water tested. I just bought a home with well water and it had some crap in it that it should not have.

Usually it is not the water itself that they are allergic to but what is in the water. I used to go visit relatives in the summer and it was a trip to hell. Being well water you can be allergic to runoff from chemicals and fertilizer used in farming and plant control, it can be minerals too. I used to use Benadryl to control the effects from bathing but I drank bottled water when possible. Best of luck.

Not water but the mineral content, like you said. If your parents have a lot of phosphorous in their water, that might do it. Sounds like a hard water problem, whatever the mineral is.

I don't think that it is the water you are allergic to because you can't be allergic to hydrogen OR oxegyn right?? The stuff that you are allergic to the stuff they added to the water. Get a sample of the water and take it to your doctor and tell him/ her about your situation I am sure he/she will be willing to test it out.
I personally think that its the mineral content.

Your water is treated if you live in a big city water in rural areas have all of the parasites and other life forms because it's not treated, bring bottled water and wash with that next time you go.

it's not the water.. it's what's in the water.

have they had their water checked by anyone from the water dept? the city?

and every time you visit maybe just get bottled water and if you have to shower, bathe? just do the boiling water thing... if you are willing to take the EXTRA effort... OR they could put a filter on the tub facet... there are adaptors for that.

have you talked to them how you react to their water?

I'm very sorry that you are having this problem. But I must say that I have never heard of anyone being allergic to water.
