Pine. It's stronger. I've never even heard of particleboard baseboards, but I imagine they would ding and break easily.

Particle board will puff and swell if it gets damp or is in a wet location. Pine is better but the sap may bleed through the paint if it is not properly sealed.

Particalboard if gets wet,, will come apart,,, I like pine better.

most of the trim i use is either hardwood or fir.partical board will swell up if gotten wet so i wouldnt recommend it in wet locations.if you can afford fir-- this would be the way to go-- it will last for years

What are you doing to your baseboards that would cause it to wear? No one should be walking on it. Fiberboard is the best.
