Working with kids is pretty tough. I have been doing it for five+ years and even have my BA in early childhood education. It's not a job you can just slack off in, you always have to be "on" and on your best behavior as well - no swearing, gotta dress nice etc.
If you think you'll enjoy all the responsibility and are prepared to learn ALOT from the kids and parents, go for it, but make sure you are committed to it.

I have a class at a kindergarden center I spend a little over an hour there every day. Prior to that i spent a half a year working in a daycare. There are a lot of pros and cons to child care. But for me the pros out weigh the cons. It can really get tiring working with the kids every day. You have to have very good patients and try to think from their point of view. Even simple things such as the fact that they can use scissors correctly and they just cant get it rite away...can get frustrating. But when you teach them something (especially in kindergarden where they will use the things that you teach them for the rest of their life)..it gives you the best feeling in the world because they are so happy when they finally get it. They love to learn. And best of all the love it if you act like a kid too so it can be very fun. It really all depends on the kind of person you are. If you have patients, you like kids, and you like to have fun. Then go for it! The hours sound great and holidays off is defiantly a plus!

Pros: Kids generally respect you because you're bigger than they are. Kids are hilarious. You get to be a kid again through the different art projects and games. Kids learn through playing at that age.
Cons: Kids are exhausting. You have to keep an eye out at all times because someone is going to do something dangerous. Kids get sick a lot and spread their germs to you. This young age you have to deal with their parents. Tattle Tailing.
I work with children between the ages of 3 and 6. They're great fun but I come home exhausted every day. I wouldn't change my job for the world though.

I would suggest you volunteer first and spend some time seeing what it's like before actually applying for the job. It really depends on the person; Some people love working with kids, and some can't stand it.

Firrst of all, if you are doing it for the perks such as time off and summers, don't bother. Teaching should be done by those who truly love it and can commit a lot of time energy to it. It is a noble occupation, especially since you will be around young children, someone's baby.

well where I teach, we work 8-3:30 but it varies from school to school . . . to be a teacher, you need LOTS of patience and with kindergartens, you really have to mold them and get them ready for school . . teaching them the basic fundamentals (the alphabet, how to write their names, how to read, etc.) . . . holidays off is great . . but just a little advice, if you're in it to get rich, find a different occupation . . teachers don't make half of what we are worth!!
