Ok. I think he is a maltese but I'm not sure. That's what the woman told me when I got him. Here's the pic...

Excuse me but miss thang I don't consider my dog a mutt. If you don't have anything good to say don't say nothing.

He is entirely cute.
I have a Maltese and though they are very similar.
The flap ears are right, the intelligent look in the eyes is right but there's something different about the fur.
He is at least part Maltese, I would think.
Your vet will have a more informed opinion.

Google maltese dog pictures and you find some cute snaps to compare with.

PS. we call them Dukey dogs as our big boy's name is "Duke"

Sorry, hun...but he doesn't look anything like a full-blooded Maltese. They have MUCH longer, 'softer' fur with more delicate, rounded facial features. They are also much smaller than your dog. The coarse, wirey hair your dog has is typical of terrier breeds. He may have 'some' maltese in him...but he's certainly not a purebred.

He sure is a cutie, though!!! :-)

He very well might have some Westie (West Highland White Terrier) in him...but his ears are different than they have. Westies are usually more stocky than that, too. I could believe he's a maltese/Westie mix....but in all honesty, he probably has more than 2 breeds in there. (Which is the definition of a mutt, btw...it's not an insult. It's merely a descriptive term. If he's not a purebred, he's considered a mutt. But what does it matter? You love him, and he's preciously adorable, regardless!)

Please make sure to call your veterinarian ASAP to see what he needs in the way of basic health care. I'd sure hate for him to get sick on you. And ask the doctor while you're there about what breed(s) he might be. It's a lot easier to make that determination in person than from a photo.

***Edited to add*** I see someone else sees a maltese/Westie mix, too! LOL. And I'd sure take a groomer's word for it....they would know better than anyone, except for a breeder of those breeds.

I would guess Maltese too, my uncle has a pure bred that looks a lot like your dog. The fur seems a bit more wiry though (unless it's just the pic), so there may be a little terrier in the mix. You definitely have a very cute pooch...he's a keeper!

I had a dog that looked a lot like yours. His hair was a bit curlier, though. The person I got him from told me he was a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. I never really knew if it was true, but my old buddy Bob Barkley lived to be 17! He was a wonderful dog! Good luck with your cute friend!

Spaniel, Poodle, Schnauzer mix.

Looks like Maltese...but resembles Benji from old 70's films.

He kind've looks like maybe a Maltese/ West Highland white terrier mix to me.

He is cute though, no matter what he is.

He looks like a maltese to me. Here's a link to the American Maltese Association if you want to check him against the breed standard. Even if he isn't exactly to specifications does not mean he isn't a purebred maltese. http://www.americanmaltese.org/

If he is a Maltese, he is kinda large...they are usually tiny. With his hair cut that way, ya really can't tell, but I would lean toward a mix or a less-than standard Maltese.....
