i need to put together a photography portfolio, for school, and i'm not sure exactly how to go about it. what are some standard rules? how many photos, etc? any help would be appreciated.

You should include 10-15 (no more, no less) of your best images that show a variety of skills and talent. Ex: some portrait, some artsy, some landscape, photojournalistic, product, etc.

The order of the photos is important. You should lead with your best photo, and end with your second best photos.

If it's an actual printed portfolio, don't skimp by getting your prints from walmart or cvs. Try Mpix.com, for really nice prints. Also, a white paper bleed border is very pleasing to the eye.

Maybe an older student could help.

You would be best to get that information/guidelines from school.
I would be only guessing.
