Let's face it, we cannot control any other peomrson's behavior and it's commonplace to blame others for the problems in this board (trolls, nasty comments, nasty posts, etc) and it results in a lot of anger, frustration, nasty comments, and makes this one of the most unpleasant places on the Yahoo!Answers board.

All we can control is our behavior and how we react to others.

My promise to you, is that if a question is something where I might answer in anger, I will ignore that post so I don't contribute to the problems by making a nasty post.

What about you?

What suggestions do you have to make this a better place to be?

Well, I agree with what you say about ignoring nasty posts.... but my favorite way to deflect my anger is to use it constructively and answer malicious posts with sensible, logical and knowledgeable answers that are in no way insulting or malicious to the asker. In this way I try to set an example for others to do the same and I hope that maybe upon reading my answers the people asking them feel a little foolish for acting so nasty. Maybe they will never open thier minds but at least I can rise above their malicious intent and completely deny them the angry response they were intending to provoke. I think this board would benefit immensely if people would not allow others to push thier buttons, and instead keep thier calm and answer politely in spite of it. When I was younger I used to get very angry at bullies at school and I would lose my cool and freak out on them... I remember being told that really the reaction is all that bullies want to provoke from you, and if you deny them what they want they will stop acting that way. It turned out to be true and to this day I have lived by that thought and it truly works.... deny any attacker the satisfaction of getting a rise out of you and they have no ground to stand upon.

'Twill be a bit like herding cats. Remember, religion has led to worse wars than this in many parts of the globe. During the fight over slavery, most protestant churches split into northern and southern branches. In a forum this diverse, it will only take a few short fuses to ignite a flame war.

However, your effort is noble. I'll agree not to castigate anyone. If they are trumpeting things that tread upon my rights, however, I will point out the error in their ways, but in a responsible manner.

Your idea is a good one, and it's the same thing I finally had to do. I just started ignoring posts that seemed to be intentionally hateful and provocative. I'm not sure there's much else to do. Some people do seem to like it the way it is.

I think requiring an actual email address would help. So many of the people who are real problems have no address.

stop fighting over whose religion is the right one, keep religion personal and not political, all religions can be both, true or not. it's a personal thing, also depending on wheteher or not it was drilled into your head while growing up. definitely though, keep religion away from political powers, it could help....

Make some subcatagories, like 'Christians asking Christians', 'Christians asking anyone', 'Pagans asking Pagans', etc.

We could all unite to eliminate the fairy tales that are religion - go to http://flushaholybook.com and flush one holy book of your choosing. That will help get us started.

Peace.
