Growing up I knew many people who drank it. It's VERY sour. :O). I didn't like to drink it as a kid.

I don't drink it, I only purchase it to make this dessert......if you have enough left over; try it.
It's very good! Quick and easy to make too!
ORANGE BUTTERMILK SALAD:
1 (20 ounce) cans crushed pineapple, undrained
3 tablespoon white sugar
1 (6 ounce) packages orange flavored gelatin
2 cups buttermilk
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
Mix pineapple with juice and sugar together in a medium saucepan, and bring to a low boil, stirring occasionally. Stir in gelatin until completely dissolved, remove from heat, and cool to room temperature. Add buttermilk, and refrigerate 1 hour, or until partially set.
Gently fold in whipped topping. Pour mixture into a lightly oiled gelatin mold. Refrigerate 8 hours, or until completely set.

I love the stuff, but it has a pretty sharp tang that takes some getting used to if you've never had it before. If you're going to drink it straight for the first time, try crumbling some saltine crackers or cornbread into it.
That takes some of the edge off at first and lets you get used to it.

The only way I drank it was with hot home made and buttered cornbread crumbled in it...now that is COUNTRY! It sure was good though. Now drinking plain buttermilk alone, it won't kill you but that does not make it a good idea.

Well, if you ask my husband, YES! He can down a whole quart of Bulgarian (this is important) buttermilk in less than 10 minutes!
I won't drink it, I just use it for cooking...when it's still in the fridge. :)

Yes it is good to drink. However, it is an acquired taste and many do not like the sour tang it has. If you like the taste of plain yogurt then you might like the taste of buttermilk.

~*~Depends.....in our household, for instance, my hubby would say "YES", but I don't like the taste of it. Sure do love it in biscuits, pancakes & waffles, cakes, etc., etc. though. My hubby likes to pour it over cornbread & eat it that way, or just drink it straight.
