I just said non-muslims need not answer this question right?

I am not good at this yet, so can someone be kind enough to explain why muslims fast.

I'm fasting. This is my 4th year fasting. We fast so we can learn patience, and understand how it feels to be poor and hungry. We will become more grateful for every meal.
To me the hardest part is waking up at 5 am. I get so tired. I'm more tired than hungry. It is so hard to eat that early in the morning.
Good Luck ♥

Salam. In whatever you do, moderation is the key. It is good that you are trying to fast even if for half-a day because it is the 'essence' that matters rather than the blind following of a ritual that made u feel forced.

I started fasting when i was 8 years old and it was never a force from my parents. I do it because i know i can get Allah's pleasure from it. But being a child that time its hard so at times i only lasted till around 1 noon or 2.00. As i get older though, i realised that I need to control myself and not succumb to lust because later on I will be accountable for all my deeds so that in itself gives me strength to fast full time.

You need to develop God-consciousness girl, that will seriously help things out.

At the same time, you must be practical about it and prepare yourself for the fast for example NEVER miss the morning meal and make sure its nutritious food with a cup of hot drink, avoid cold water if u can because this will make u weak.

All the best, surround yourself with like-minded people who'll bring u up. Salam :)

Alhamdulillah (Prase be to God) I am fasting.

It can be difficult to fast for the first time, but it is not impossible. Because God says that He won't require us to do something that is impossible to do. Everything that He requires us to do can be done, some with ease and some with little difficulty and effort on our part.

There are small Muslim kids, some of whom are as small as 6 years old who fasts the whole month of Ramadhan. So I think if you are determined to fast, I am sure you can do it. May God be on your side and support you while you fast!

The main purpose of fasting is to experience how the poor feels. Because when you fast you won't eat the whole day and you will feel the hunger and thirst. And that will remind you of how poor feels in their daily lives, you fast for one month but the poor lives like that for their whole life! And this makes us aware of their state, and to give charity next time we see one. To help them in any way we can. Ramadhan is a month where we also get closer to God, we pray more, we read Quran more and we try our best to be a good Muslim.

God legislated fasting for gaining Taqwa, "O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed upon you as it has been prescribed upon those before you, so that you may attain Taqwa." (meaning of Soraatul Baqarah (2):183)
So we should ask ourselves, when we break our fasts, 'Has this fasting day made us fear God more? Has it resulted that we want to protect ourselves from the hellfire or not?

You who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you-so that hopefully you will guard against evil-for a specified number of days. But any of you who are ill or on a journey should fast a number of other days. For those who can (scarcely) afford it, making up for it means feeding a poor man. And if someone does good of his own accord, it is better for him. But that you should fast is better for you, if you only knew. (2:183-184)

when you fast it shows God that you are willing to make a sacrifice for him. Upon your fast you should pray for meaningful things and others, not just yourself alone; and don't fast for material things, your fasting should be deeper than that; Fast for a closer walk with God, better understanding of his word, salvation, peace in your home, financial miracles, stuff like that. I fast every Sunday and Tuesday from midnight that night until noon the next day and remember to pray when you come off the fast that it may be manifested in God.

Fasting rules.

But I don't do it for Allah, or Mohammand and his wives. I do it for the health and spiritual benefits.

As for Islam - it's the most flushed religion @ http://flushaholybook.com
