In the Christian faith, we would call this walking in love, where we do something good for another person, or we might call it doing good works. In the Christian religion even giving a cup of water in God's name is rewarded in heaven (Mark 9:41) if it is given in sincerity rather than for "look at me and how good I am.".
If you are from a different belief system, what would be your basis for doing good works, and is there a specific term for that good behavior?

I must be poorly wording this, because I'm interested in finding out whether other religions have a similar concept or term.

In Islaam also, every good deed done to others is regarded as a charity. eg. Removing a banana peel that is thrown on a pathway where people will walk, in order to prevent someone from slipping on it, is considered a good deed.
We are taught to honour Muslims and love each other for the sake of Allah.
We are taught to be kind to all creatures.

First of all let me say that I think that it is wonderful that you are stressing a positive point to any religion. Too many times it is the negative side that ppl hear and see. I take a little bit of an exception to the "doing good works" for Christianity. If we are truly Godly ppl and if our lives show Christ in them, then all that we do would be good to not only other believers but to all of man-kind. This wouldn't be a part of a religion but a way of life not a duty.

Although I am not Taoist this is what I believe.
The highest good is not to seek to do good,
but to allow yourself to become it.
The ordinary person seeks to do good things,
and finds that they can not do them continually.
The Master does not force virtue on others,
thus she is able to accomplish her task.
The ordinary person who uses force,
will find that they accomplish nothing.
The kind person acts from the heart,
and accomplishes a multitude of things.
The righteous person acts out of pity,
yet leaves many things undone.
The moral person will act out of duty,
and when no one will respond
will roll up his sleeves and uses force.
When the Tao is forgotten, there is righteousness.
When righteousness is forgotten, there is morality.
When morality is forgotten, there is the law.
The law is the husk of faith,
and trust is the beginning of chaos.
Our basic understandings are not from the Tao
because they come from the depths of our misunderstanding.
The master abides in the fruit and not in the husk.
She dwells in the Tao,
and not with the things that hide it.
This is how she increases in wisdom.
EDIT: All belief systems have this concept. It is dwelling in the Tao in Taoism. Buddhism has it as one of the 3 basic Truths to teach.
Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.
Buddha
Islam's base is from Christianity so it is a similar teaching.
When you realize that ALL religions teach the same basic things you will start to discern Spiritual Truth.
Being kind to and loving all of mankind is a Spiritual Truth.

If you are from a different religion other than Christianity, then it really doesn't matter if you do good deeds or not, because no one gets to the Father except through Jesus Christ. And if you don't get to the Father, then you will not be saved, and will burn. I don't mean saying this to you, I know you were just wondering. People just need to know that good deeds should be done in the name of Jesus and Him and only.

I am Wicca, so yes. I believe in good deeds. Wicca has only one law all Wiccans agree on and that is the rule or law of three. Simply put, whatever we do comes back to us three times over. Some Wiccans believe this to be a literal three times, but others like myself believe we will get back multiple times what we do.
So, we are encouraged to do only good because whatever we do we get back three fold and it is better to do good and get back good three times over.
We are taught to respect other people and tolerance toward others. We believe that Deity is in everything and everyone. So whatever we do to others we do to Deity.

I am of a different belief, my basis is just being nice. I think the term is common courtesy. I don't think it should have anything to do with religion.

I do good deeds because it makes me feel good to help someone else. It has nothing to do with religion.
