I am a grade ten guy, and am relatively "shy" generally. I'm interested in a friend's friend whom I don't really know. She is a grade above me, so it would be hard for me to find times to talk to her. Also, my friend (another grade eleven girl) seems to think that it would be weird for me to date her just because we are in different grades. What can I do to improve my situation? Also, would the age difference be a problem in high school? I'm not really sure what I would say to her to ask her out....

Don't approach it like your asking her on a date - not at first. Try to find a way to talk to her, to start a conversation naturally. Don't try any fancy "come on's". You could suggest "hanging out sometime", or ask if she chats on-line and exchange screennames - that would give you a chance to talk without the pressure of eye to eye conversation. Or be more direct, and get her phone number - but don't ask her out the first time you chat or call. Let her get to know you - you'll know if she's interested. WHO CARES WHAT GRADE SHE'S IN! If the magic is there between you two - neither one of you will care! Just take it one step at a time, be pro-active (she's not going to come running to you!!) and make it happen!

Older girls are where it's at. I know its tough to pull off in H.S., but if you can, go for it. I've dated a couple of older girls and had a great time. Just make sure you are mature enough to bridge the gap. I'm a shy guy too, but I consider myself to be pretty mature. Its hard for me to tell you how to make a move on her. If she is in a class, you'll just have to go up to her and talk to her. Ask her about an assignment or something. If she's not in a class, its gonna be a bit harder. But, if you are really interested, you can do it. Make yourself known to her. Try and set yourself up to be able to do something nice to her. You might could just go up to her and talk to her. Make sure she is by herself. Don't do that around her friends, it would make her feel uncomfortable. Honestly, you just have to dive right in and try. If it doesn't work out, you'll have plenty of other chances with other girls. Just treat girls with much respect and it will work out.
