When the United States offered Mexico $25 million for upper California and lower (Baja) California, Mexico decided to pass on the deal. As a result the Mexican-American war started on May 11, 1846. After 2 years of fighting, much of it located in Mulege and La Paz, a peace treaty was drafted in 1848. The U.S. now offered $15 million for the Californias. In a classic counter-offer proposal Mexico agreed to let the U.S. have upper California and New Mexico if it could keep Baja.

Screw the 'it's their land' idea. the US only wanted Baja, a much smaller land and Peninsula!

Then someone told me after the Gadsen purchase, we were offered Baja for $15,000,00 and WE SAID NO!!!

Clearly, those in Mexico have no understanding of "honoring an agreement".

Maybe we should deport all our illegals to Baja...with their thriving tourism, there should be lots of jobs for "their people". Then, put up another wall along the Baja/California line....

It seems that the Americans gained much from their "Cold War" with the Russians! That was as great a "politically corrected revision of history" that it would have brought tears of pure pride to the eyes of any Soviet Commissar.

Pure nonsense and lies! The war with Mexico was started by a Pearl Harbor style sneak attack over the Rio Nueces in Texas. It was a war crime, a pure land grab by the United States and NOTHING more.

Don't believe ME! I live in Mexico and I admit I am completely biased! Just check out what TWO American Presidents said and thought about the US's vile actions and war crimes against the people of Mexico. Not two bleeding heart, whining liberal Democrats either. Two hardass Republicans, one a War President and the other a former Commander in Chief of the Army (and actual veteran of the War with Mexico), Abraham Lincoln and U.S. Grant. Ignore us "whining" Mexicans, check out what THEY had to say, you racist gringo bastards.....

U have to check out your history books one moore time, there. U SA have underpressed Mexico during the world bank. supported wars in Guatemala, (training guerilla soldiers ("the american school). The Worst parralel analysis in the /9/11 could be that the USA DOESNT HAVE BEEN TRADING with the rest of the world but has depressed the rest and poor countrries. Ever thought about that? UUOOOOPPPS

Interesting post Yars.
It seems to many dwell on the past in my opinion. It is what it is today. What the future holds who knows.
Crying about past things is a waste.
