Actually talking to yourself is not an unhealthy thing...

Most people talk to themselves quite regularly, even when walking down the street; but, it is primarily done silently so it's not evident to onlookers. Whether or not we talk out loud, or silently, when we talk to ourselves, we are processing our thoughts, solving our problems, or just deciding what we will eat for lunch that day.

Some people have difficulty in making the transition from speaking to themselves out loud when they are alone, to speaking silently when they are in public. This is purely an issue of societal norms. Speaking to yourself out loud is not unhealthy behavior, but it does run counter to what is considered normal in American society. You can either try to speak to yourself silently when you're in public, or you can continue talking out loud and risk some stares — your choice!

It has been suggested that this "private speech" is a stand-in for the helpful guiding speech that children often receive from parents and caregivers, says Washington State University psychologist Andrew Lotto. This self-directed speech is a way to guide activities and structure thought. Researchers have demonstrated that self-talk in children increases when task difficulty increases, and children who use private speech in tasks often show the greatest increase in performance.
Naturally as one grows older there are social constraints on talking out loud to yourself, and as children age they start to whisper or just mouth their self-guiding thoughts. "Perhaps as adults, when no one is around, we use this same process. Since the speech is usually private, it may be up to the individual to decide if this prediction is generally true."

So don't break such an awesome habit, it's natural to do and whether people admit it or not just about everyone does it, at some point.

First I would sit myself down and tell myself that this is going to stop! I have had it with myself and this nonsense is going to stop now! Don't let yourself tell yourself that you don't have to listen to you!
