Just remember assalam-alaykum (hello-greetings) and you'll do fine! The hardest thing about learning Arabic is you are learning a completely new set of letters and numerals while also trying to learn pronunciation and reading. The writing is right to left and is quite easy to learn. It is a beautiful written language. I took Arabic and the text we used was al-kiitaab and alif-baa. They are available off of amazon. I highly recommend them. I tried using other books on my own and struggled but that series comes with a DVD and makes it easier. If nothing else, I would try to learn the alphabet before you begin classes!!

These days you can learn how to speak Arabic over the internet. Check out this online course, it's voted as the best Arabic online course of all time: http://www.rocketlearner.com/arabic The course is very easy to follow, I was able to learn Arabic in just 3 months.
I live in New York City, I wanted to go to a Arabic language teacher but that would have cost me over $800 per month. Good thing thing with this internet, $800 it's a lot of money for me.

RE:
Is Arabic easy to learn?
I'm moving to Dubai next year for at least two years because of work, so I would like to learn Arabic. Is it hard to learn? Also the writing looks complicated but is that easy to learn when you get used to it? I'll be starting Arabic lessons in January but until then is there any good...

Bad news...It is the second hardest language to learn after chinese. The grammar is especially complex, and the phonetics are almost impossible to perfect by non-Arabs. Another thing is that Arabic, contrary to many languages, is written from right to left, with a completely different alphabet, which makes it ten times harder to learn than say Spanish or French. Good news is that...English is widely spoken in Dubai, and there are many Americans and Brits there, so you shouldn't have any problems adjusting there. There are some schools in NY, I think, where you have to stay there for weeks and speak NOTHING but Arabic. As to websites, I don't think they're useful, the only way of learning a language is going somehwere where you won't be able to speak anything but the language. Tip: do not try to literally translate from English to Arabic...would sound too awkward. Good luck.

I've been learning Arabic for 2 years now. YOu need to be dedicated to it everyday. I also know German and Spanish and I say that Arabic is by far the hardest. Just keep to it, almost everyone who speeks Arabic will be happy you are learning and willing to try to speak it, that they will help you out and speak with you. Just keep to it!
