look padre, we welcome people of all kinds to our country. here's the problem.
1. we have them coming here illegally, that means we don't know who they are, they could be a family coming to make a better life for themselves or a rapist, murderer, drug runner, terrorist, whatever.
2. the border is an easy opening for Islamic terrorist communication/transport. think about it, people from a desert are going to find it easy to traverse a desert.
3. those Mexicans tat come here in huge numbers are unwilling to assimilate into our society. we Americans are all for the most part immigrants from somewhere, but we are Americans. your people don't want to be Americans from Mexico, they want to be Mexican living in America.
4. illegal immigrants cost me money. they use our social programs and don't pay into them. check out immigrationcounters.com
5. they hurt our economy by sending huge sums of money, tax free, to you.
that covers the basics. anymore questions??

I agree that the influx of immigrants illegally into the US is a serious problem. But the solutions currently before Congress are a laugh. Build a wall? We have walls and fences now, and they just dig under, climb over, or cut through. Who is going to patrol this 1400-mile wall?
The answer is threefold:
One, place high cash penalties on the employers who hire illegals. Right now, if an illegal immigrant is found working at a farm, the immigrant might get sent home, but nothing happens to the guy who hired him. You make it a financial risk to the employer, you'll see an exodus to the border that will make Moses and the Hebrews look like a boy scout troop.
Two: Make an easy and legal way for Mexicans who want to work in the US to do so. Then, you bring people into the system, charge the employers a small fee to offset the costs of the programs. Make the employees pay state and federal income tax.
Three: Don't allow this program in areas that already have high unemployment rates. Employers in high-unemployment areas must stop hiring from the guest worker program or, if unemployment is really bad, send the guest workers home and hire locally.
This solves your issues:
1) They will be coming legally, and we can do background checks, etc.
2) We still have to guard the border, only with less traffic, it should be easier to control.
3) Guest workers would not be expected to assimilate into our society, since this is not a citizenship program and they will go home when their jobs are done.
4) We charge taxes and a fee to offset the costs of the program and the services the guest workers use.
5) At least we tax it now. It still mostly ends up in Mexico, but if it didn't it would probably end up in China, which is worse.

I am a libertarian. Don't blame the average citizen, blame the people who hire them at below minimum wage income and reap huge profits. Many of the people who benefit from the illegal immigrant work force are staunch conservatives. Greed is what fuels this. If employers could not profit from their labor the illegal immigrant trail would dry up. As long as you vote for mainstream politicians like Bush Jr. you are part of the problem. He has done nothing to solve the problem.

Well I totally agree with everything you said and hope more people start to think of this situation as a very big problem.I am in no way a racist, I have family members in almost every color but they are here legally and no longer consider themselves a citizen of their country of origin. They are now U.S citizens heart, mind, and soul and they agree with the idea of sending them back if they are here illegally. Please keep spreading the message we need more awareness in this country!

I am a liberal, but I am against illegal immigration. I'm afraid this is not really cut down the Liberal/Conservative lines. . .
