If they are not sexual preditors then I dont think they are any worse than all the others that have wierd lives outside the school, I know a kindergarten teacher that sells sex toys on the side, that is her life outside of the school. As long ad they are not trying to touch my child or teach them to follow their life example, there are worse people that are teaching our kids...

If they would just keep it to themselves and not try to make such a big deal about it and try to convert the whole world. But by saying "openly," apparently this teacher is indeed making his/her orientation an issue in the classroom and I'd be having a little chat with the principal.

The job of a teacher is to teach and not to have "an axe to grind" or shove an agenda down the throats of students, especially at the primary and secondary levels of education.

Yes, as long as they are doing their job. They are NOT deadbeats just because they don't fit into a category (status quo) that you would like them to be in! As for me, I would rather be queer than to try and be something I am NOT, which is how lots of people try living their lives. If this "teacher" had a very unique way of teaching your child of the dangers of sexual predators, you would not have a problem then, would you? Likewise, if the "teacher" was trying to make passes at your child, then you'd have some worrying to do. Let up. Try not to be homophobic for no reason at all.

Yes. It's not like they're not human.

As long as they're not trying to influence their students to be one way or the other, I don't think it makes a difference. Straight teachers also shouldn't be trying to make their students who they aren't.

I don't think any teachers should be open about their personal lives, which include sex lives. However, I don't think a teacher being openly gay is being excessively open about their personal lives. I don't think that is something they should have to hide in order to be a teacher.

Yes. A homosexual is not a pedophile. At what point do you think sexual orientation will affect this person's teaching methods? If this person is a math teacher what do you think the equation will be? One queer went to the bar and picked up another queer? How many queers does that equal class? Two queers!!! And now the whole class is gay.

Silly question.

We allow openly ignorant and prejudice teachers in the class room so why not? As long as they are not having sex on the desk it does not matter.

No my religion teaches that homosexuality is wrong and teachers are generally admired and looked up to and I don't want my child to think that he/she is supposed to respect a homosexual I don't care how politically incorrect it is ...God told me to raise my children with Christian morals and I don't think that includes exposing young children to homosexuality ans telling them that the homosexual is smart enough to teach them. I don't hate them, just don't want to be around them, and certainly do not want them teaching my children.

Yes. It doesn't matter what they are as long as they're not pedophiles or talking about their sex life. (Straight teachers shouldn't be talking about their sex lives, either.)

Besides, kids are going to have to see gay people someday. Exposing them to real, good, honest, trustworthy people who just happen to be gay might be the best thing to start erasing our country of all of its anti-gay prejudices.

No. It isn't their place to bring their sexuality into the class room. What they do behind closed doors is their own business, but our kids don't need to grow up thinking everyone is the same gender.
