No beer is the best way to go on treatment with any medication but in moderation, a beer or two, or glass of wine really won't be an issue with toxicity or affect the potency of any medications. There are medications however that can aggravate the adverse effects of the drugs, and that is the source of great concern, thus taking beer should be avoided along with certain medications- that will be the safest option.

Antibiotics for instance; it has irritating effect to the stomach, adding an alcoholic beer will make the situation worse.

Tranquilizers and narcotics when combined with beer increase the central nervous depression. Take for example- Oxycodone and Acetaminophen ( Endocet® ; Percocet®)). It will be at your risk to take beer with it.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors like Isocarboxazid (Marplan)- are not advised to be taken with tap beer as it contains tyramine which will result to adverse interaction. Canned/bottled beer can be taken with moderation.

Alot of people say antibiotics with alcohol is bad. it is just that if you drink alcohol with them the alcohol takes longer to break down in your blood, this can effect driving limits etc. One antibiotic in particular, however is very dangerous with any alcohol. it is metronidazole. This causes a severe reaction if taken in conjunction with alcohol. There is a recommendation that when you come off this drug, you should wait about ten days before drinking alcohol. It is prescribed for people with Crohns Disease and infections caused by bacteria from the gut.

It is not safe to take any kind of medicine with alcohol (beer, wine, or other liquor). Doing so can cause mild to severe side effects.

I wouldn't take any just to be on the safe side. Drinking any type of alcohol, even if it's just a small amount, is not the smartest thing to do when taking medicine.
