They may want their own territory. You can also spray your couch with Bitter apple spray that you get from Petco. Dogs hate the smell and it will discourage them from digging in the couch.
When you see them on the couch tell them no and place them on their pet beds. It will take a little while, but if you're consistant they will get the picture.

Get a squirt gun or a spray bottle with a stream setting, and give those puppies a quick squirt when they hop up on the furniture.
Pretty soon, they'll associate the furniture with the squirt, and they'll steer clear.
As far as for when you're not there, you'll just have to put them outside, or pen them up somewhere so they can't get to the furniture.

Put one of the pet beds on the couch, or don't allow them on the couch anymore.

Just more supervision; simply don't allow them up on the backs of the sofas.
If you're new to dog training, I think a dog obedience class would be great to take. You can learn how to use positive reinforcement and replacement behavior to get a bad dog not to act bad.

they re probably just testing you and seeing what they can get away with.
keep telling them no when they do it, if u allow them to be boss about anything, they could get worse
1. make sure u walk in/out every door before them
2. make them sit while u are giving their food.. stand over the bowl, run your hands through it
3. make them walk beside u
4. make them sit when you stop
5. make them sit, lay, stay, on command, treat them for good, and reprimand them for bad, if NO doesnt work, then hold their mouth shut and calm but firmly tell them no, bad dog
they need raw hides to chew on, and be shown that bad when chewing the couch and good if only the raw hide
Yes get or make them more pet beds, one for each, they hate to share anything

The only way to make sure they dont rip up your furniture is not to let them on there to begin with.
You can re-educate them, but will take time and patience, but sounds too late for your couch lol

Before you let them in put a heavy cover over the couch so it dosen't matter if they scratch it. Replace the cover when it gets real bad. It is better than replacing the couch.

Call the dog whisperer.
Or go to the pet store and buy that "bitter apple" spray that makes everything taste bad. I believe it's safe for furniture.
