Sometimes, it is just the shedding season. Also, their skin may be extra dry, in this case the vet can give it a coat supplement. This often helps.
Keep in mind, it could also be the food your giving your kitty. Or poor hydration

Well they do this in warmer weather to cool off. If they are losing it in big chunks when its cold they may have an allergy to their food. My cat had that problem before and she had a big bald spot on her side. Try switching their food and see if that helps.

They do in the Spring mostly and in the Fall "cooler weather" they tend to regrow.

my cat chews out chunks of fur due to a flea allergy..I know it's time to give her flea meds when I see patches of missing fur

its just shedding.... or if its comming out in chunks they could be allergic to something [grass, food, etc] or they could have a skin disease.
