Did you mean SLEEP APNEA? Sleep apnea is characterized by a cessation of breathing during sleep. Sleep apnea results in the patient waking up several times during the night time, often without realization of the arousals.

There are several consequences of untreated sleep anea. Because the patient stops breathing, he/she does not receive enough oxygen and the patient suffers several episodes of hypoxia each night. There is a well documented correlation between sleep apnea and hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, strokes and congestive heart failure. Also, excessive daytime sleepiness leads to thousands of accident related deaths each year.

It's sleep apnea. There's several reasons for why it happens, but it's usually something like your soft palette or the back of your throat collapsing and blocking your airway.

The best thing for you to do is to go to a sleep lab. They'll hook you up with all these monitoring things and have you sleep on night at the hospital while they monitor your sleeping, heartrate, breathing, etc... If they discover that you do indeed have sleep apnea, they'll give you a CPAP machine to try out to see if it'll help. A CPAP machine is a "Continuous Positive Air Pressure" machine that works very much like a SCUBA system where pressurized air is used to open your air passage. That's the cheapest fix for sleep apnea. If it's really bad, there's surgery. Often times, if you're overweight, losing weight will solve the problem. But if you're not, the two things I talked about are your options.

In any case, you should get it check out, because sleep apnea causes stress on your heart and can lead to a heart attack if not addressed.

Your best bet would be to visit a sleep diagnostic clinic. Sleep Apnea is characterized by snoring and periodic absence of breathing while sleeping. During the day, the sleep apneic will be tired, often falling asleep while driving or performing daily activities. Often people who are overweight or have exceptionally thick necks are more prone todevelope sleep apnea. There are treatments, but you need to be diagnosed by a clinic before they are prescribed. Don't waste time. Your well being is at risk.

Best wishes and healthy living.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

I think that you mean sleep apnea. PERIPHERAL SLEEP APNEA is the cessation of breathing with no airflow past the nose or mouth for 10 seconds or more due to an obstruction in the otopharyngeal region. CENTRAL SLEEP APNEA is a sleep disorder manifested by central nervous system malfunction. People with central sleep apnea stop all efforts to breathe. This occurs because of CNS disease (i.e. tumors, infections, vascular disorders, CNS depression from pharmacologic or unknown causes). Peripheral sleep disorders are related to upper airway obstruction such as: tonsilliar and adenoid hypertrophy, enlarged tongue, failure to maintain an open airway during sleep, deviated septum, small jaw, narrowing of the larynx, etc. The incidence is greater in men, obese people, and people over age 40. The following is a list of symptoms of peripheral sleep apnea , from the most frequent to the least common: loud snoring, abnormal limb movements during sleep, poor memory and inattention while awake, excessive daytime sleepiness, hypertension, depression, morning headache, bedwetting, and morning nausea. Diagnosis is made through sleep studies. If a number of these symptoms are present, formal sleep studies may be done in a sleep disorder facility or clinic. Surgical. medical, and pharmacologic interventions are available if the screening studies are abnormal thus facilitating the person's ability to function optimally in the daytime. Good luck to you. Your relatives appear to be on the right track with their assessments of your sleeping pattern. Now it is up to you to follow through with further diagnostic testing.

Sleep apnea..yeah, it sounds like that. I have sleep apnea so I can relate to this. Be excited...sleep apnea can be cured! You can get surgery for it or you can get a CPAP machine. These machines will save your life and you will feel a whole lot better!

Sleep Apnoea.

It does sound plausible. You should get referred to a sleep clinic. A place where you go to sleep, and are monitored at all times. Then you would have an accurate diagnosis.

It sounds like the symptoms of sleep apnea...you should see a sleep specialist, since apnea is hard to determine and requires several tests.

The proper way to say it is "Sleep Apnea", and it does sound like you have the symptoms of this. Try sleeping with a 3" pillow under your neck, not your head. I know that it helps me.

Good luck
