and at home. when i am not at work he seems to care why i was not there. he asks bout my kids and how the foot ball games went and cheering .

Try getting back to work and doing your job. Your company does not pay you to spend all day emailing others and and not working. Do that stuff on your personal time. Tell this person that it is OK to email at home but you have a job to do as well. Then you'll find out if he likes you. Hopefully if he's respectful and understanding of this he will be someone to have hang around for a while.
