Do you already have a program like Adaware (by Lavasoft) or Spybot Search and Destroy? If not, get them - they're free and help get rid of lots of unwanted stuff.

I had a trojan or virus or something that I couldn't get rid of a couple years ago. I downloaded a (free) program called Hijackthis, and searched for a web forum that would help me interpret the findings of the program. Someone from the Netherlands, actually, helped me finally get rid of my problem, over a series of emails. It took a few days, but it worked!

The restore disks would be helpful. However, you would lose everything you had saved if you did not have a backup for the information you wanted to hold onto. You also would have to download your software and probably several other programs besides. I hope you get lots of response to your question and lots of options.

As well, you could try http://www.housecall.antivirus.com
Follow the links and instructions.

The following MIGHT work:

Go to http://www.webroot.com/consumer/downloads/?rc=3711&ac=EN10&rsc=dl

Download the spy sweeper.

Run the scan.

When the scan is completed copy down the complete file name for each troublesome piece of spyware such as the Trojan virus.

If you find that the scanner download is slowing down your computer, you might want to remove it at that point.

Go to the start menu and then to Find. Extend the menu to the right.

Click on Files or Folders.

In the box beside Named key in the complete file name of the Trojan virus.

For example:
For a cybervision keylogger form of spyware,
maybe
c:\windows\cpqdiag\_isreg32.dll

Click on Find Now.

When the file appears you could try to delete it, and see if it works. Before trying to delete it, if you click on Properties you MIGHT get some information on the source of the Trojan virus.

You could try the last suggestion on other forms of spyware as well.

I hope at least something works.
