IQ is not a measure of knowledge, and (all you self-proclaimed geniuses) you cannot get away with laziness. Answers will not just come to you, you have to work for them. IQ measures your ability to learn, not what you know. So please, stop acting as though you are the peaches of the world (that was directed at other answerers, not the questioner).

First, IQ tests are adjusted for age. So, your 120 is compared with other 12 year olds.
Second, IQ is an accurate measure of your ability to reason and learn, having a high IQ does not mean you will be more successful or that you are necessarily 'smarter' than everyone else. It is a very valid test of a very specific thing. People who make a big deal of their IQs usually fail to understand this. For example, I have a friend who brags his IQ is genius level... I believe it, but it does not change the fact that he is an idiot (he has few friends, no serious relationships, no job, no real 'life').
To answer your question... 120 is better than average, but is still well within the normal range. 67% of people have IQs between 85 and 115. A 120 means you score higher than about 70-75 percent of the (12 year old) population. To be considered to have a HIGH IQ, you need an IQ over 130, or better yet, 145. You are bright, but not a genius.
The real question is... what will you do with your intelligence?

Which test did you take? Of the hundereds of IQ tests I have given (Wechsler Scales of Intelligence), I have never seen anyone at a clear standard deviation. Usually the score is like 116 or 121...so, was this one of those online IQ tests?
The IQ, or Intelligence Quotient, is really only one part of how "smart" a person is. Consider this fact - Ted Bundy had an IQ score over 160 and was considered a GENIUS in the upper 1% of the population. He ended up dying in the Electric chair because of murdering 50+ young women. Not to freak you out or anything but, IQ is just a piece. How are your grades? is there a subject you are good at and some you are not good at?
what most IQ tests do do well is show how strong your vocabulary is when compared to others your age. With a 120 your vocabulary is very good.
If you took one of the "clinical" intelligence tests the normal score is 100 with a standard deviation of plus or minus 10. using the bell curve theory of statistical distributions, 66% of the population will fall between plus or minus 1 standard deviation of the normal (90 to 110). you can find a lot of information about IQ testing on the American Psychological Associations web page.
Your IQ is very good. If you find yourself getting bored in school beg your parents to get you tested for giftedness.
AS for all those doubters out there, my IQ is a 112 to 116 range (depending on the day and the test taken), and I am a PhD student in educational policy at a major research university. So, IQ does not always determine life course. Determination, desire, and the will to succeed also can help. Someone who works hard with an average IQ can (and they DO) go to Harvard Law or to Johns Hopkins medicine. IQ has NOTHING to do with your ability to succeed or your ability to fulfill a dream. It is simply a measure of your ability to learn and, the lower it is, the harder you must work to achieve what you want.

On the Wexler-Bellview scale, half of the population have IQ’s of between 90 and 110, while 25% have higher IQ’s and 25% have lower IQ’s.
You are in a group that is considered Superior (120-129) which applies to 6.7% of the population. The only higher rating is "Very Superior" and that would be 130 and over.
Given your superior intelligence, you probably know that there is a vast difference between intelligence and wisdom.

a million. You age is roofed in calculations of IQ, so it makes no odds, and your IQ could stay an analogous via your existence. 2.one hundred is the mean 3. 127 does no longer particularly have been sufficient to get you into grammar college interior the old days, yet you may have been distinctly close. that is positive for a gifted job, yet no longer an academic. Mensa demands a hundred and fifty + Genius = a hundred and seventy+

Yes, it is. A score of 100 is average. However, beware of I.Q. tests. They do not necessarily measure intelligence even if they set out to try to quantify it. They fail to take into account many different variables, such as how the person taking the test is feeling and how interested the person is in what he or she is doing. They also are very culturally and socioeconomically biased. Please try not to take the notion of I.Q. too seriously. It maybe says more about what you CAN do.
I have heard that I.Q.tests are really only acknowledged as a tool. However, the "tool" can sometimes be used as a weapon. A lot of deception exists in the fields of psychology, educational psychology, psychiatry and most disciplines connected with mental health.

My view is too high an i.q. can cause problems. Yours is high enough that you can do most routine jobs, but still have good social skills.
You probably cannot be a Ph.D in Physics. They average around 150. M.D. might also be a close call. Heck, I retired after 30 years in a company. Most of my bosses were around 120 to 130.
