For those who need explanation, there it is:
x number plus x+1;
x+x+1 => 2x+1;
2x+1+9 => 2x + 10;
(2x+10)/2 => x + 5;
x+5 - x = 5.
It's simple. The number you thought was never used in the calculation. 5 came from 9 that was added. if you add 11 then the remainder would be 6, and so on.

Cool, I did get 5. My number was 2. It is very simple, here's an example for people who don't understand. I will use the number 30 for this example.
Example: 30+31=61
61+9=70
70 divided by 2= 35
35-30=5
It works with any number.
