cupcake, the christians also persecuted the pagans, do you know nothing of the old witch burnings that were so common after christianity took over? Pagans still suffer discrimination to this day from christians

lol john winston, you are the one who needs to do ALOT of research.

The sign of the trinity comes from the three goddesses, the sign of the fish even has pagan roots

Huh? I have no idea what you are talking about. As a Christian, I believe that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. Somehow, Santa Claus came into the picture. I'm not sure why, or how, but I could care less. As for Easter, it celebrates the resurrection of Christ. The Easter bunny got brought into that holiday and again, I could care less. Christians know the true meaning of those holidays and we combine the commercial stuff with the true meaning behind the day. I've never heard any mention of pagans ripping off these holidays.

The dates of the Christian holidays, specifically Christmas were chosen as a way of converting pagans. They are simply dates of observations and are not expected to be taken literally (Jesus was probably born in July).

The celebrations themselves have nothing to do with the pagan holidays of those days specifically. Christmas is around the time of the winter solstice celebration of the Romans and the festival for the god Saturn.

From my understanding, and I am a Christian minister, you are more correct than saying the pagans ripped off our holidays. Many of the Christian holidays were established in lieu of a pagan holiday and on or near the pagan date for the purpose of preventing Christians and their children, from feeling 'left out' during the other celebrations.

Christianity did not copy pagan holidays. They used them to transition pagan people into the faith. It was a political move, like politicians work certain demographics to get them in their camp.

You have to keep in mind that Christians were quite distinct from pagans and for three centuries persecuted for their differences. In fact, they were charged as being atheists becuse they did not bow to the Roman gods.

Wikipedia.........." Based on the words holy and day, holidays originally represented special religious days. The word has evolved in general usage to mean any special day of rest (as opposed to regular days of rest such as the weekend)."

I know the truth. I am fully aware of how the Church tried to replace the pagan holidays with Christian ones. I am still Catholic.

I don't know who copied who and it doesn't matter to me. It is interesting that there are two different celebrations with each holiday, one with God and one without, but not all people want to celebrate with God, so guess that's why there are two different ways to celebrate.
