True love in my opinion, all love worthy of the name costs the giver and the receiver something. The greater the love the greater the cost.

But I would say that Love is always worth the cost!

In the end the love of a parent costs the child much if only in the loss when one realizes that parent is mortal and will one day pass from this life.

Disclaimer: My Truth is mine, it works perfectly for ME. I do not expect anyone else to believe what I say unless in agrees with your common sense and reason (and then only if you choose to believe it). I will not be offended if you do not agree with me.

Thus it is said:
The path into the light seems dark,
the path forward seems to go back,
the direct path seems long,
true power seems weak,
true purity seems tarnished,
true steadfastness seems changeable,
true clarity seems obscure,
the greatest art seems unsophisticated,
the greatest love seems indifferent,
the greatest wisdom seems childish.
The Tao is nowhere to be found.
Yet it nourishes and completes all things.
~Tao Te Ching

“The greatest love seems indifferent” is the part of this saying that pertains to your question. What does that mean?

How many times have you heard people ask how God could allow this or that if God was loving?

Life here in the world of duality is for us to express who we truly are in relation to everything else. Nothing else here matters ……..life, death, money, anything you care to list except how we express who we are.

Christians (such as yourself) will be more comfortable if I say it like this: expressing Gods love and our understanding of him in all our thoughts, words and deeds.

That is who we truly are, an expression of Gods love (the bible says he gave of himself to create us…..his breath). We are to realize that we have divinity in us and express it.

When you know this (have complete faith in it….faith the size of a mustard seed) you realize that we are never separated from God and he doesn’t “allow” such and such to happen…..he is experiencing it happening through us. He loves us enough to allow us to express who we think we are, even if we are wrong, without interfering.

In the end there is no such thing as not God. God is infinite and by definition something that is infinite encompasses EVERYTHING. This is a game no one can loose because we all return to the source. Suffering…….no matter how horrible it seems, is only temporary and then we return to the source forever (if we choose).

It is that faith (knowledge) that allows unconditional love. Love without pain is love without fear. We fear the loss, rejection or separation of love and this causes us pain. When you understand that there is never any permanent separation, that there is only God and when we die we will remember this, love no longer hurts.

Unconditional love costs nothing. It is given without expectation. It allows for the one being loved to do whatever they choose to do without diminishment. That does not mean that you allow someone to abuse you but if that is what they choose you are free to choose to not be around them.

I think that if a person does not feel their love for someone comes at a cost then that is not their true love. True love to me will hurt sometimes and it will cause a person to sacrifice and to give more than a person will normally be willing to sacrifice for someone they are not in love with. The cost and sacrifice for true love is certainly worth it when you see the one you love and your heartbeats faster and you cannot wait to be around this person you love the way they feel against you when you are in bed together and the softness of each others kiss. I would give all I have to this feeling no matter the cost.

It's the times that I loved, show love for one another, helping the innocent, that perhaps were the times that I was hurt the most in so many ways, but I cannot help it, I'll do it over and over again, if I feel in my heart that's what God wants me to do, WE ALL must in some way suffer in his name, it pays off, especially when we make that first step on Heaven's foundation:)

Nazareth

Love hurts, Love scars, Love wounds and mars
Any heart not tough or strong enough
To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud, it holds a lot of rain
Love hurts, Ooo-oo Love hurts

I'm young, I know, But even so
I know a thing or two - I learned from you
I really learned a lot, really learned a lot
Love is like a flame It burns you when it's hot
Love hurts, Ooo-oo Love hurts

Some fools think of happiness, blissfulness, togetherness
Some fools fool themselves, I guess
They're not foolin' me
I know it isn't true I know it isn't true
Love is just a lie made to make you blue
Love hurts, Ooo-oo Love hurts

Solo

I know it isn't true I know it isn't true
Love is just a lie made to make you blue
Love hurts, Ooo-oo Love hurts
Ooo-oo, Love hurts Ooo-oo

Of course love can hurt. It is difficult to love people, especially the unlovely. But it IS Jesus top priority for His flock, as He told His disciples: "I would that you love one another".
