When can I start pumping my breast milk?
It's best to wait until breastfeeding is established (usually after a month) before pumping and giving your baby a bottle of breast milk. If you start too early — before your .................................

I started pumping when my daughter was 6-8 weeks old, and I will not wait that long the next time around. I was only able to keep up my milk supply for one month after I returned to work after 12 weeks. I remember "leaking" a lot in the weeks before I started pumping, and wish that I could have saved all of that milk. I think the sooner you start, the better. At least you'll have plenty in stock for later use.

My daughter had a confusing time latching on before everything so the lactation representative had me pump from the starting up. finally she did latch on and that i nursed for 2 months then pumped till she develop into almost a twelve months. i'd imagine that it could be ok from the starting up via the indisputable fact that's an same sucking sensation that you would possibly want to get out of your toddler. i'd take the pump and ask the representative even as the toddler is born. only a part note, you suggested that you would possibly want to no longer manage to pay for a pump and switched gave formula. I calculated how a lot I kept on formula through pumping and it got here out that if I had formula fed it might want to have value almost 3000 even as a pump value 250 so i finished up saving in the destiny. in simple terms some thing to imagine about. good luck.

The hospital had me hooked up right away to a breast pump...It can sometimes take a day or 2 for your milk to start flowing

whenever you feel comfortable doing it. If you wait it will help to not over pump more than what the baby eats. This is why they tell you to wait so the baby can determine it's eating habits and you are not over strenuating your breast. I waited with the first one and pumped in the hospital with the third. I prefer to pump and never had a problem either way.

It depends.

When are you going back to work, and do you intend to keep nursing?

If you ARE going back to work, and you want to keep nursing, you should still let your baby eat as much as he/she wants, but whenever he/she misses a feeding, or falls asleep after only one side, or is feeling a little off and just doesn't eat as much, pump off whatever's left and freeze it.

Then you have a nice little stockpile before you go back to work, and you won't be so stressed out trying to keep up. If your baby experiences a growth spurt, your daycare provider will have extra. If you're a little late getting home one day, your little one won't starve waiting for you.

You have a LOT of milk in the beginning, and it's easy and comfortable to pump it. Later on, it's a little tougher. So getting ahead is nice.

But NOT at the expense of feeding your baby now. He/she should be able to eat on demand, and from YOU, not a bottle.

As soon as you want! Its best for the baby to have the mothers milk, so if you cannot feed the baby pump until you can, you will want to keep the milk coming in.

I think that you should start the pump right away so that youre baby doesnt get spoiled. Its hard for some babies to make the transition especially if they havent been introduced to anything else.

Right away. My son was in the NICU and I had to pump since I couldn't feed him for the first few days.

The nurses told me right after I had my kids to use the pump to get the milk happenin! then keep at it or get your baby to latch on. I couldn't get my baby to get the hang of it so formula was my next choice it sucked!
