did they specifically get a list of doctors?

Well unless you where Dougie Howser MD at 18, not likely. All Docs are college grads & are officers. What generally happens were that reserve officers got called up for duty. As a general rule people in med school were exempt from the draft.

People still with the draft questions? Folks there is no draft & there is not going to be one. The Army just recruited it 80,000th recruit this year.

A physician cousin of mine was drafted during Vietnam and entered the Army as a Major. He was drafted because his number came up and he was still draft age eligible.

Draft age during Vietnam was 18 1/2 through 25 years old, oldest first. You could be almost 26 years old and still be drafted.

In Korea you have to be in a medical school to become a military doctor trainee. So unless you already have some experience and have capacity to learn they won't draft you to become a doctor.

Most people dont become doctors for about 6-8 years after they finish High School. In Viet Nam, most doctors enlisted, or had served, got money from Uncle Sam to go to college, and were paying back their time.

Most draftees were 18-19 years old during Viet Nam. Anyone older was an enlistee

I could be wrong, but at least I have never met an officer that said he was drafted. Now recalled, that is a different story.

I would pretty much agree that the doctors choose to be in either place.
