I have recently washed down the brick on my fireplace. Now i am trying to wash the sandstone that is on the mantle and Ledge in front of the fireplace. I have washed it (Sandstone)down and everything looks nice and new except certain spots where the soot from the fireplace accumulated on the brick and now from washing it has stained the sandstone. I have washed with Bleach, Oxy-clean, scrubbed and Yes even Sanded....there has to be an easier way? Please Help!!!!

back up and take a good look. It may add character to the fireplace. I would try dawn soap and water on it before I quit.

You may not be able to get that out. Sand stone is very porous and the heat from the fire may have cooked it in good. There are places in the west where people have camped near sandstone cliffs and it doesn't come off. Good Luck.
