We just found out that my beagle is about to have puppies. The normal period for a dog is nine weeks and she's already over that. We don't know who the daddy is and he could either be a dachsund, a border collie, or the 75 pound mutt across the road. If they are the mutt's, what should we do? She is already HUGE and she looks like whe will have them within the next three days. Her milk is just starting to come in.

She just ate a few minutes ago so I don't think she'll have them tonight or early tomorrow. She is actually my 10 year old sister's dog and she didn't bother to tell anyone until today.

Because you dont know her due date it would be a good idea to take her to the vet to let them palpate her so see how many pups she will have and how big they are. She shouldnt have any problems delivering her pups. You better hope she doesnt anyways. A c-section on a dog in a emergency vets office can run you anywhere from 1,000 to 1,500 dollars and thats not including the meds they will send her home with. But sometimes you got to do what you got to do. If shes getting her milk it could be anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks before she gives birth. Good luck and if you need help or advice please email me.

My vet told me that the female's body will usually regulate the size of the pups, so like chetco said unless the father was a big headed breed, she should be fine. I knew someone who's little Shih-tzu had pups from a Border Collie and everything went just fine. Just keep an eye on her and watch to make sure she isn't having any problems during the delivery. Follow your gut feeling when she's in labor, if you feel she's having problems during the delivery don't hesitate and rush her to the nearest vet right away.

She will most likely have to have a C-Section, at which time the vet will also spay her. I won't lecture you as I think you already know that she have been spayed before she ever got pregnant. I'm sure you'll get enough lectures from the comments after mine, but what's done is done. You can't go back and change it now.
Good luck with the dog and the pups..
ADD: Fooolish me. I didn't mention taking her to the vet only because the others already did, but trhey are correct. Get her to the vet ASAP. Don't wait for her to go into labor.

I'm confused... You said you "just found out" she's going to have puppies... but you know she's over nine weeks?! And... you have no idea who the daddy-dog is?
I SUGGEST YOU:
Call your vet and let them know you were ignorant enough to NOT have your dog fixed & yet, you let her run free to get humped as she pleases.
I SUGGEST YOU:
Let them know you might NEED their help if she got nailed by some mutt across the street and the puppies are too big to push out of her little tiny body.
I SUGGEST YOU:
Never own another animal.

You can get a vet to tell what type of dog is inside but if your dog can't go to the vet because the time is near then call the vet to some and check, that would be better for you and your dog. Make sure your dog get's plenty of rest and she doesn't walk, give her a lot of water and i hope all goes well! Good Luck!

If she goes into labor and you notice her struggling to get the puppies out or if they get stuck, take her to the vet right away! They can assist her in giving birth or even perform a c-section. You really won't know until the time comes, good luck

DO NOT wait until she is already in labor. Get her to a vet NOW and make sure the vet clears her for normal delivery. They may have to do surgery but it is better than your dog dieing during labor.

Unless the sire is a large headed breed, the puppies are not likely to be too large..Normal gestation is up to 68 days..If she hasn't had them by the 69th day, she needs a trip to the vet to get things going..
Here is a great illustrated whelping site, to help you to help her.
.As she is 'huge' be sure to have puppy formula on hand in case there are too many for her to nurse..>> http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/whelping.html

Then you will be getting a c-section. Hope you got your pennies saved, it is not cheap.
Why is the dog roaming around, especially when she is in season? If your family is unable to be responsible owners, get her fixed. We aren't exactly having a shortage of cross breeds.
