I grew up in New York City and I couldn't wait to leave. Now, I long to return.
It's Manhattan that is awesome. You have SoHo, the Upper East Side, the Upper West Side, the Village, etc. It truly is a 24/7 city - and always something to do.

I think it is great! It depends on what matters to you though in life. Personally, I like to be around a diverse group of people, exposed to many different cultures and cultural activities, art, music, theater, and creative ideas and a highly educated and driven crowd. Privacy and space and peace and quiet matter little to me.
I feel a real sense of community and neighborhood here in NYC, but I can see how some others might be intimidated or feel isolated.

It was ok a few years but since last year or whatever, ppl just started being rude and stuff and I really hate it. i don't like rude and conceited ppl and there's a lot here and it's sad I have to live with it everyday

It's great. Well worth all the hassles, most of which are exaggerated by rumors. I miss it terribly; I've been gone 6 years.
