I was diagnosis with bi-polar at the age of 11. I am now 31 and still am battling it. Bi-polar is hereditary. You do need to seek some professional help on this one. Don't ignore it and just think it will go away on it's own.
My mother used my bi-polar as crutch to keep me in check as a teenager. Every time I crossed my eyes or grunted or did anything that resemble signs of rebelling she would inform my doctor and my medication got adjusted. I don't remember much of being a teenager due to the heavy doses of medication. So please do research and ask several question when it comes to medication.
If you son is bi-polar he is gonna need lots of support and understanding. Being a teenager is hard enough without adding issues to it. Reinforce your love for him and make it a family problem and not a public. Let him understand that counseling is for him. Don't pressure him about what he said or what the shrink is saying. Just be supportive and non judgmental. Some teenagers to tend to grow outta bi-polar at times. Adolescent hormones and body changing and all the other crap can bring it out but as they age it sometime lessens. Having a good understanding on it can be an advantage for him. Getting him into a support group for teenage is also helpful. This is a tough and rough road ahead if he is bi-polar so being supportive and once again Reinforcing your love for him is a MUST ..
