Lot's of times. I've lost a lot more than I've won but that's to be expected. Even when you can't save someone, at least you've given the family the comfort of knowing everything that could be done was. The few you save, are very memorable.

Yes I work as a camp health director every summer, I am registered respiratory therapist. Two summers ago I had a camper who went into anaphalactic shock after an allergic reaction (obviously). Anyways...by the time I got to the other side of camp even with the assistance of my golf cart, the camper was barely breathing. On my way over to the other side of camp I called 911. When I got there, I tried to secure an airway for her, when I inserted an oral airway, she seemed to be breathing a bit better, but soon deterated as her airway closed around the tubing. Eventually her heart stopped, and I began CPR, and sent someone to go get the AED we kept in the health center on camp site. Thankfully we were able to restart her heart with the help of the AED, and after several days in the Peds ICU, she survived. That was my first CPR story, since becoming a respiratory therapist I have participated in CPR of several patients multiple times, some have lived and some have survived. But you can't save everyone I guess.

For 15 years I have been in EMS, I have done CPR many, many times, On elderly people I have only had 1 save. It really just depends on why your pt's heart has stoped any way. The hospital gets people back and they usually pass away within a few days anyway. On young people, well like I said it depends on why their heart has stoped. I think it is a wonderful thing but I also think there is more deaths than saves.

Yes, and the person did not live. CPR is meant to help sustain a person's brain until they can get advanced life support. An AED is the better option for saving a life. CPR has never brought anyone back to life.

Yes I found him dead and revived him several times before the ambulance got there.
He was put on life support in the hospital, but his father pulled the plug after about a week.
I strongly suspect that he had suffered irreparable brain damage by the time I found him.#

Yes. He was my patient when I was working in a LTC facility. I was able to revive him a couple of times, but he finally died @ the hospital later that morning.

3 times, 2 died, one lived. one of the guys that died at least was on life support long enough for family to gather, so i still consider that a small victory.
