There's a new sporting good store (Academy) that just recently opened up. They sell mealworms along with other bait for fishing. My question is: Are the mealworms good enough to eat? Or is there a certain type that I would need to buy? I've just always wanted to eat them, I would make sure I put them on a good diet (apples) before I cooked them. Also, anyone got any tasty recipes for mealworms?

yes, especially with fish lips!

OK, OK, I know it wasn't that good. I have never tried meal worm maggots
The only mention I have got is here, pages three and four.

but this is not really about meal worms. I know that Royal Museum of Ontario has done insect banquets and some Universities have done this too, But I have been unable to find the links. I remember that they described meal worms as Nutty and Crunchy. Other that they did them up in a fried rice dish I have no clue about preparing them. If you ever decide to do Grasshoppers or Locusts you don't eat the wings or legs. After cooking you just sort of nip the abdomen off. not to bad, but more like a snack than a meal, spicy is nicer.
