The safest energy on the planet is the energy that is produced by the human body. People, before any other energy was harnessed, carried out enormous tasks. The great pyramids of Egypt were built with only human energy and still today there are studies that explore the "how did they do it theories". We as a society have lost as much as we have gained via the modern technology highway. Human energy has no adverse affect on the environment and conversely every other energy source has some degree of negative result. It's people with shovels or pollution spewing bulldozers. Not only are we destroying the quality of life on the planet but we are becoming a society that is totally dependent on technology and the people who dangle it over us in order to amass huge fortunes. Why do you think Bill Gates is worth Fifty Thousand Million Dollars? The oil companies?

Define safe...

Nuclear has the smallest envirmental imprint for the largest release of energy.

Solar and wind have massive enviromental imprints but since they are mostly used above the ground on roofs the imprint is negated significantly. Also their imprint by comparison to most other technologies is fairly benign and they dont damage the earth much *other than solar panels kill most of the plants beneith them.

Oil, Coal and such have medium imprints, but massive effects when used on large scale due to their chemical composition and the fact they need to be burned. I consider them to be the most dangerous to the enviroment.

Hydroelectric, has a medium imprint, but causes more ecological disruption than even coal or oil use.

wikipedia

"Renewable energy sources, or RES, capture their energy from existing flows of energy, from on-going natural processes, such as sunshine, wind, wave power, flowing water (hydropower), biological processes such as anaerobic digestion, and geothermal heat flow. The most common definition is that renewable energy is from an energy resource that is replaced by a natural process at a rate that is equal to or faster than the rate at which that resource is being consumed. Renewable energy is a subset of sustainable energy. Renewable, as a term, was coined to exclude nuclear power (on continuing debate see Nuclear power"

Biodiesel...it is made from naturally grown resources and can be made from corn or vegetable oil...the fumes are totally safe and the fuel is not flammable...combustible though and must be burned in a diesel engine. Rumor has it that there is a new type of engineered plant that produces a ton of oil per acre...I can't remember what it is but it makes a lot of oil! and they are just starting to experiment with it!!!! All of you fuel..not just alchol..may be grown in the fields in the future..!!!!!
