I believe tipping is completely up too you! If the service that he provides for you is superior then tip him. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule for it though. My brother is a DJ and I know that he takes a lot of time listening to the couple and setting up an entire night just for that couple, He plays a important part in the entire "million dollar" day! It doesn't have to be much but something would be nice!

I am a DJ and almost never get tipped. It is nice when I do, but I never require it. Every DJ company is different though. Most companies (like mine) charge well more than enough to cover their pay and their employees' pay.

If you're not spending a whole lot on your DJ and he goes above and beyond the call of duty, I would say a tip is not out of order. If you paid a premium price for your DJ, and with the price of your meals, I'll assume you did, then don't worry about a tip.

Hi, I personally have a DJ business and no you do not have to tip. Unless your reception runs over, then simply pass a hat to pay for the extra time. It is very kind of you to feed them. However, Pose the question to your DJ in regards to food. A seven course meal is very generous and expensive for you. They may decline due to being busy. Perhaps you could just offer an appetizer. Best of luck to you.

Of course you should always tip your vendors! You should tip the officiant, the caterers, the dj, all of them! Most DJ companies have policies that the DJ should NOT eat, even if asked. They are there to do a job, not socialize. You may wind up with a DJ who is as awesome as mine was...we gave him a $100 tip, and he put it in an envelope and gave it back to us as a wedding gift.

No you dont have to tip him/her and I WOULD NOT tip them. You are already paying them.
Call the DJ and ask (before the wedding) if he expects to be fed or not. If he does plan on eating your food then instruct the reception hall to ONLY feed him the main course and maybe a salad, if it will cost you less (ask reception hall). They may make a cheaper meal for you to feed the DJ.

I tipped the dj, the photographer and the banquet hall co-ordinater. There was a tip built into the reception cost to cover the servers and bartender. I would have tipped the officiant and the florist but they left before I could. I was pretty darn appreciative that the wedding was a grand success. I tip those who give me great service.

My daughter was married in June this year.

No, it is not expected. It's completely option (feeding the DJ is absolutely necessary though.. I did not see your other question). But tipping is optional.

I didn't tip our DJ. He showed up 45 minutes late, took 2 hours to set up his stuff, and then had to run to store because he forgot the cd that had our first dance song on it. Very unprofessional.

Actually, you should put a tip jar out for the DJ so when your guests have a special song request, they can tip him for playing it. It isn't necessary for you to tip him, but it is a nice gesture.
