Calcium is super important. If you don't eat enough calcium, your bones will start to get weaker and weaker. You basically get little holes throughout your bones. The worst part is, it's completely irreversible. Once your bones loose density, it can never be built up again. That's why it's so important to have lots of calcium while you are still growing. My nutrition teacher didn't believe in using supplements, except for calcium, because it's so important.
Your doctor should be telling you all this. Next time she tells you something you don't understand, ask her to explain.
The milk industry wants you to get your calcium from milk, but it is actually better to get it from green vegetables like spinach, kale, and broccoli. You can also get it from some legumes or soybeans.

Calcium is very important for women these days beacuse we can have issues with our bones and teeth, like brittle bone disease in our later years, you can even lose inches to your hight!
Granted it's like a inch for ten years or something like that but still!
Kinda freaky. Anyway, 3 natural sources are dark leafy greens (also good for iron!) milk and dairy products and soy products.
Also, dont forget vitamen k helps with absorbing calicum so get some of that too! But if you are like me and couldnt get a balanced meal to save your life just take a multi vitamen that way you are sure to get everything you need not just the calcium!

Calcium is necessary for various neurological as well muscular functions. Although i wont delve to deep into this due to it's extremely complex nature. I can tell you that Ca+ ions are used by the post synaptic dendrites on PNS neurons in order to elicit the release of neurotransmitters across the synaptic cleft.
It is also essential for muscle contractility as is K+ (Potassium). However, I'm assuming your a female because only a female patient would be hearing their M.D emphasizing calcium due to the lack of absorption of Ca+ ions within the intestinal tract due to certain abnormalities that plague middle aged women in particular. That's why you often hear of bone disease (osteoperosis) occuring in female PT's. If the absorption is inhibited or perhaps you have a calcitionin inbalance due to thyroid abnormalities your M.D may advise you to take in more calcium. But overall, it's a common piece of advice for a woman advancing into middle age. Your meats and dairy carry greater amounts of Calcium than most foods as well as good old sunshine which is synthesized by enzymes within the body in order to create Vitamin D. I would also advise an increased intake in vegetation in order to increase vitamin K absorption. Vitamin K helps to transport Ca+ across the intestinal endothelium into the blood.

maybe u should ask the doctor, but anywayz Calcium is a main body building element, it helps our bones to be strong and also helps our teeth to be strong and clean.
and the manin sources of calcium is milk , fruit juices and fruits.
basically u just have to ask the doctor :why he or she has asked u to take a lot of calcium so u could know whether its for a severe reason or not

you need calcium to keep your bones strong so that you don't develop arthritis. drink lots of milk - that's a great natural source of calcium!!

Milk,Tums,bread! work it hun it will inprove your bone strenth, if you fail to have calcium in your daily diet, your bones will become
Frail,and you stand a much better chance of broken bones in a fall if you will!
