it is not long before we will be running our cars on hydrogen that is removed from water.. the car exhaust is mostly oxygen.. there is so much energy in the hydrogen that it only takes about 4 ounces of water to drive a 100 miles..

as i understand it, the military has a contract with a manufacturer of the motor to retrofit hummers to run on hydrogen/water..

The only real answers at present are nuclear, hydroelectric, a distant third - wind power and an even more distant fourth, solar.
