Every Country in the world would have to participate. The USA only contributes to less than 5% of all global warming.

I am not sure about your answer, it would be a slow process to reduce the melting. Serious work by all industrialized countries. The situation results in a positive feed back loop, which essentially feeds itself and makes the process speed up as it progresses. Therefore, I am not sure if it can be stopped once it starts. A catastrophic volcanic eruption could be a stop gap solution. They can cause the Earth's avg Temp to drop for a short period, which could help stop the melting. That is only temporary, the industrialized nations need to work together for a progressive solution.

Also, MrsMarried is wrong in her remark that the US only contributed 5% to global warming (not trying to steal your thunder). That is way off, we contribute around 30 %. Which I believe is much greater than any other country. My number may not be exact, but always be weary of answers on this site, especially in regards to global warming. Most answers are opinion based and not based on the derived evidence. Most people know what the "popular press" says, but do not bother to research for themselves. The situation is real and we could be near a tipping point in the next few decades. Then it may be too late to stop or even reverse the trend.

Stop building combustion engines for cars and manufacture pure electrical cars and trucks instead (airplanes also).
Stop using petroleum as an energy source.
Arrest and convict governments that continue to allow deforestation for logging, mining or development: remove their presidents and convict for crime against the Planet.
I think that when we finally come to realize that the only way of stopping the current global warming trend is by stop using petroleum and stop deforestation it will already be too late. In the next few decades we will feel the first ominous signs but it will be already too late. Civilization as we know it will cease to exist if we don't get smart.

First we have to convince the naysayers that the evidence is overwhelming and must be accepted as a fact. Sadly, so many uninformed people continue to insist that the jury is still out on the issue. (We can thank corporate media for that.)
