My friend is getting married and would like a canning system. He likes to make sauces, etc. and would like to can them at home. I am looking for something in the $200 - $500 range.

Try a Cooking specialty store like Kitchen Kaboodle. They are readily available on large malls and Outlet malls. If they don't have everything on hand that would be needed, I'm sure they could order it in a timely fashion. You can probably find something on-line, but going to a store will give you hands on knowledge of the quality you are buying.

for home canning which i do all the time it would not be that eapensive....first you need a large canner holds 7 jars....you would need canning tongs a china cap strainer(the kind thats has a stand and a wooden pestal for straining jellys and sauces...of course jars pints and quarts but they are always reusable and if i give someone something i can i tell them i want my jar and the ring back.........my grand mother used a pressure cooker for canning but i never got in to that i don't like pressure cookers....and probably a good canning cook book on procedures....kerr makes a nice one..ive looked at it but my gran taught me at a early age...oh yeah i forgot a canning funnel to put the product in your jars it saves a lot of mess they are different than a regular funnel as they fit the mouth of the jar perfectly..it would be nice to have some sure jell, canning salt..and possibly a couple large cooking pots to cook the sauces in and whatever...you would want large pots as you would want to can quite a few jars of your product...some cheese cloth...and measuring spoons and cups ..i have a large glass measuring cup but i use it to pour juices and etc into the funnel and jars the large one makes it go much faster...you might also be able to find a small canner it does 4 jars and that is kind a nice for using whaen you only have a couple of jars let to cook to seal...well i think i give you about the basics to do home canning...this is all he would need....
