One time I came across an old man and he said that there's one sure way of knowing whether you'd been a good parent and that is if you grow old and ugly and your kids still visit you. I suppose he was damn right but on the other hand it would be a bit too late to know how you good you were.
The way I see it is by trying to be their friend rather than just a parent and I know feel successful when my kids come along to ask me what their friends should do with problems with THEIR parents.

If you are concerned enough to wonder if you are a good parent then probably you are..when you see your kids interact with society or hear other parents talk of them are you proud?? you are a good parent if you do everything you possibly can to teach your children right from wrong, how to work for a living, that education is important, that people should always be treated with respect, and that no one person is better then anyone else..You are a good parent if ou talk to your children and warn them about drugs, alcohol and smoking..you are a good parent if you check up on your kids and make sure they are not somewhere they don't need to be..you are a good parent if you let your kids have a life but you know they are safe and happy..like i said if you asked you probably are..

Ok.. you have to treat them like an adult but at the same time limits there reponsiblities.. You have to out of there bussiness but still keep in touch with them .. make sure you still understand them.. Once the are about 12 throught 13 Your probely going to get into alot of fights becuase they are expecting more reponsibillity and you dont want to give them so much... Just take it easy on them at that age .. then at 14 through 15 It gets alot easier becuase you have adjusted but then at 16 or 17 It happens agin beacuse the can drive.. Its a pain in the A$S.

Someone once said to me that I would only really know when my grandchildren were grown up!
Seriously, remember that the results are not necessarily according to the quality of the job you do. A lot of things must be taken into account, such as genetics.
None of us do a really good job. We can only do the best we can, and be honest with our children - not claiming to be always right.

r your kids good?
do they have a roof over their heads?
do they have food in the house?
do they have clothes to wear?
guess what if u have answered yes to any or all of the above,
then u r truly a tremendously great parent and no one else can tell u how to raise your children
raising kids is a crap shoot and only u can do what is right for your family.

My children grew up and got their own lives before they came back to tell me what a wonderful job I did. They gave me all the reasons why, too; mostly that I let them have all kinds of experiences- going places, meeting people, trying and failin,(or succeeding) at things. If you do the best you can, you have done a great job.

You can only do the best you know to do and let God do the rest. There are no perfect parents and there are no perfect children so don't be too hard on yourself. It seems like you are already putting forth your best efforts and those efforts are motivated by love. I believe you're going to do very well.

I have two girls ages 21 and 20. Both are not pregnant, Both are in college, one graduates this year and is pursuing her masters and the other is studying to be a Dr. They both go full time, work, are on full scholarships., and each bought their own cars. I must have done something right.

It's all trial and error. So, we try again. Hopefully, this time we will succeed. Sure, there are times when we question ourselves or even second guess ourselves. But, you know you are a good parent when your child puts his/her arms around you and tells you that they love you. That is what it is all about. Nothing more, nothing less.
