I want to stay on good terms with my neighbors because I will be living here for another year, but then again I feel an urgency to have the missionaries over to teach me things... what should I do?

you must do what ever you really want to and if that is inviting mormons then do it! other people should respect your beliefs because your not doing any harm or problem to them so they should respect you.... and you should respect your self and not go here and there doing things just to be liked.... be yourself as long as you do not harm others its ok
Christ wast not accepted in his time by other people he just did what he believed in, what he felt like so you must do the same, and if that people believes in christ then you should remind them that he didn't judge people...

If you really feel uncomfortable, ask the missionaries if you could meet in the house of a member or at the chapel. They will be more than happy to accommodate you.

Your neighbors may hate the missionaries because they do not know them. Perhaps if you give them a chance, they will change their minds.

Good luck.

That is a solvable pickle. You can talk to your nighbors about this issue, which is the recomended thing my friends here say, or you can hide behind their backs and secretly have the Mormons over.
I choose the talking to you neigbors about the problem. Come to some understanding. If you are to live at peace with these neigbors for a year, you cant go hiding things from them.
Now, it would be kind of clashing to go right over there and just say hey, I want to learn from the Mormons, so deal with it.
I don't like that idea, so I say go over to them, and be clever about it. Approach the subject form a safe angle, dont be contentious.
P.S. Don't mind me being agnostic, I am one that believes that religion can be a good thing in the right persons hands. And I, meeting a person, to gain their respect, assume that they are the wisest people in the world. That is why I leave the details up to you.
good luck.

Maybe your neighbors are not fond of cults.
The vast majority of Christian denominations in the United States, does not regard the Mormon church as a Christian church. That is because the official writings of Mormonism deny fundamental teachings of orthodox Christianity. For example, the Nicene Creed confesses the clear biblical truth that Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity, is "of one substance with the Father." This central article of the Christian faith is expressly rejected by Mormon teaching -- thus undermining the very heart of the scriptural Gospel itself. In a chapter titled "Jesus Christ, the Son of God: Are Mormons Christian?" the president of Brigham Young University (Rex Lee, What Do Mormons Believe? [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1992] summarizes Mormon teaching by stating that the three persons of the Trinity are "not... one being" (21), but are "separate individuals." In addition, the Father is regarded as having a body "of flesh and bone" (22). Such teaching is contrary to the Holy Scriptures, destructive to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and indicative of the fact that Mormon teaching is not Christian.

I'm sure I'll get alot of thumbs down for this. It seems like alot of people don't like the truth anymore. But, the mormon religion is a cult. It's based on lies perpetrated by a man named Joseph Smith. He "found" some tablets and for some reason he was the only one that could interpret them. The book of Mormon is a fairy tale. The Bible says you shouldn't add to or take away from it. There is no addition to it like they say their book is. Do some research on these things before you invite these people into your home.

Invite them in. It is not up to your neighbors who you have into your house or not. Your home is your home. The neighbors are free to have the Mormon missionaries over or not, as they choose, just as you are free to do the same. If they can't respect your right to freedom within your own home, you don't really need to waste your time worrying about their respect, do you? Just continue to be polite and friendly to them and if they can't be, that tells you an awful lot more about them than you probably ever needed to know.

What, exactly, are a bunch of mormon missionaries going to teach you? If you really want to invite them in, go ahead. If you think your neighbors will think less of you, tell them you invited the missionaries in to prove their religious beliefs wrong or something like that.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste.
And remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
Be on good terms with all persons
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others;
Even the dull and ignorant, they to have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons
They are vexations to the spirit
If you compare yourself with others
You may become vain and bitter
For always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans
Keep interested in your own career, however humble
It is a real treasure in the changing fortunes of time
Exercise caution in your business affairs
For the world is full of trickery
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is
Many persons strive for high ideals: and everywhere life is full of heroism
Be yourself
Especially do not feign affection
Neither be cynical about love
For in the face of aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass
Take kindly the counsel of the years
Gracefully surrendering the things of youth
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune
But do not distress yourself with imaginings
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars,
You too have a right to be here
And whether or not it is clear to you,
No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should
Therefore be at peace with GOD
Whatever you conceive Him to be
And whatever your labors and aspirations
In the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams
It is still a beautiful world
Be careful
Strive to be happy

Why do you care what your neighbors think? It is your house or apartment and you pay the bills, they have no say in who you invite over. You must be young, because as you grow older you will realize that if you desire to please your neighbors like this, you will always be in fear of upsetting someone.

Contact the missionaries and ask them if you could meet at their church or at another church members home. Just tell them that you are uncomfortable with them coming to your house, but feel you need to listen to them. They actually will be very happy to accommodate you meeting anywhere. Also, members of the Mormon church would be very happy to have you in their homes, it is what they do! Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.
