I'm trying to get my family (3 adults) to NYC to see Kristin Chenoweth in The Apple Tree. We will be on a budget and the cheaper the flight, the better. I've looked at the typical sites: travelocity, expedia, orbitz, airtran website, and delta website. Where to people find these $99 flights they advertise on TV? Are there any secrets to finding cheap flights?

I usually research flights by using http://www.bookingbuddy.com - it makes it easy to compare flights on all the sites you mention and many more (except maybe AirTran; I'm not sure if they are included) without having to enter the same data over and over again on each site. I am afraid there are very few $99 fares anytime on such a popular route, though.

Priceline and Hotwire have cheap fares, but you can't know what time of day you'll be traveling, so you may need an extra night in a hotel in order to be sure to be there for the show, and that's expensive in New York.

If you can travel midweek, that sometimes knocks a lot off the fare, so try alternate dates if you can

It might be cheaper to take Amtrak, but I'm not sure about that. Have a great trip! It's a long drive but that would definitely save some money for three adults.

I sign up at farewatch from tavelocity...they will sen you an email...at the cheapest price, but you gotta booked it right-a-way...because the seats will be gone in an hour!

Hello:

Go to http://www.grab2travel.com/
Go to "Flight" section.

Use SmartSearch - you can enter your trip detail once and can compare rates on multiple major travelsite from one place. You dont have to enter trip detail again and again.. thats very helpful.. I liked it.
