okay, this is a weird question, but i'd like advice from other moms..
i got a diaper genie when my son was born.. and i realized that within the past week, it hasnt been working that well at all.... i guess i just need a REALLY good odor control remover and i've tried glade, oust, febreeze, lysol, febreeze air effects.. i spray it with oust and lysol to kill the germs every day and i wash the inside with bleach at least once a week.. but it doesnt seem to help at all.. it worked great when we first got it up until now.. and yes, i am using stage 2.. they should make a stage 3. so yea.. hes 19 months old, so i dont really want to buy something new now
so, any suggestions on stuff that DOESNT cover it up but REMOVES THE ODORS IN THE AIR.
i even tried putting stick ups in the diaper genie and they dont help.
also.. i've tried putting the diapers outside but his room still smells because i change him in there.

My advice:
Trash the Diaper Genie and invest in the little blue diaper trash bags. These do the job just fine, and don't really seem to smell up the house.
I had a Genie with my first child, and it never seemed to keep the smell away, no matter what I did. And I tried EVERYTHING! Lysol, baking soda, bleach, Oust, EVERYTHING!!!!! Luckily, it broke before my second child was born (15 months later) and I found the little diaper trash bags. Plus, these are good to take with you on the go.
As far as the smell in the air and where you change him, try something like Clorox spray or Oust or Nutra-air. I spray mine into the intake vent for the air conditioner, and it keeps the whole house clean. And, if you don't like to use chemicals, try boiling 5-6 sticks of cinnamon for 5-10 minutes. It gets rid of odors, and makes the house smell like you've been baking all day!

I had problems with the smell, even though I used a diaper genie, too. I am also a very clean person and I got frustrated that it still reeked when I felt like I had done everything to prevent it. I started spraying the entire diaper genie down with a strong scented lysol, inside and out, I had to change it daily, and I kept an air freshener close by it. At times, I could still smell 'the smell', but thank God he is pottie trained now :-)

next time you go to refill it you could possibly get one of those new baking soda fridge mates and stick it to the bottom or side the baking soda should absorb the odor and excess moisture also along with the baking soda i would put a car air freshner in there too it couldnt hurt...from experience being around those diaper genie's while babysitting i know how they can smell but i will be honest and tell you i have never done what i am suggesting to you myself but since i know how baking soda absorbs odor i am betting it will work...if you would plz let me know if this works...goodluck

Perhaps the problem is not with the diaper genie but with something else in the room. Perhaps you need to strip his bed down to its mattress and disinfect that. Is he still in a crib or has he graduated to a toddler bed. Try looking in his toy box maybe one of his stuffed animals got soiled and you didn't realize it. Maybe he has had an accident and tried to hide it or maybe it is in his shoes. there are all kinds of ways for this to happen. Just keep looking as I don't really think that your diaper genie is the problem

I had the same problem. I ended up getting rid of the genie and just using plastic bags. I made more trips to the garbage bin outside.

have you tried cleaning it with bleach and then putting a car deodorizer in the bottom?, it worked most of the time for me, but clean it out with bleach water every time you empty it, and i had 3- boys in diapers at the same time. also sprinkle some baking soda in it.

I had one of those things and I hated it. It was so inconvenient to empty and smelly and gross. That thing was the biggest waste of money. Throw it out and get one of those things that sprays every 9, 18, or 36 minutes or something like that. Seems like it would work to me.

I put potpourri in the bottom of the container - helped to soak up anything that may have leaked out and gave a nice smell.

My wife and I had the same problem. We narrowed our choices down to either an exorcist or these little blue bags that smell like baby powder. We went with the bags.
