My cat that I just adopted is about 5 years old. Her name is Teegan, but I would rather have a name that's more like me (I'm a music nut, I want to call her something musical). She already knows her name, though. Is it a good idea to rename her?

Since she is already use to her name, I think it would be hard to change it. I like the name Teegan,it's unique, I say stick with it.

why not keep Teegan and then just add a surname like "Teegan Piccolo." That way, when you say the cat's new WHOLE name, she still recognizes the first part and come when you call and at the same time, she will be associating the new surname with herself. That's what I'd do.

Do it. If it makes you more comfortable with your cat, she will quickly learn her new name. You might want to try addressing her as Teegan for a while, accompanied by her new name. Then you can just drop the Teegan. Cats are smart, and if your cat likes you, it will pay attention when you talk to her no matter what name you use.

cats don't speak "human" so they don't really know a name. what they recognize is your voice qualities (esp tone). just the way you say its current name it may or may not recognize it. they will learn you!
i adopted 2 cats from a shelter and hated the names they came with, i renamed the day they came to my house. in no time they responded to their new names (i made the two names distinct so they the sounds wouldn't confuse them). also, when they're doing something that they know they shouldn't be doing, names don't matter, it's the tone of voice!

I think you can change her name to suit you...cats are bright, and as long as you use her new name consistently every time you talk to her...and particularly saying it when calling her for food, she'll pick it up lickety-split! Perhaps use her new name only when you expect her to come to you, then give her a treat when she comes...kitties are ruled by their tummies after all!

how about these combo's of the musical scale for new names?

sol la

ti doh

Huang Zhong
Da Lü
Tai Cu

Zhong Lü

i have self belief human beings are blankly unaware that cats, inspite of their smaller length, have better mind than a 60 pound dogs. they are easily affectionate and only scratch or hiss or growl or genuinely some thing they do this threatens human beings in the adventure that they sense threatened. in case you the position to look again at their previous, you be conscious that they began as hunters, no longer housepets. Now, supply me one time you heard of a kin cat kill someone. i'm waiting.... See you could't do it because it isn't in any respect got here about. Now dogs, properly, no longer a lot. There are way better dogs fatalities than shark fatalities, so the reason why cats are hated for his or her uncommon personality continues to be a large "?" for me. It only would not make sense. How might want to some thing so variety and sweet have the variety of recommend and terrible attractiveness? i have self belief it began with Halloween and it really is black cats. besides, bypass to a pair animal protect each and every time you'll care to, and that i highly assure you'll locate one cat interacting with a protect team in an excellent way. That stuck-up, recommend, grasping personality cats are frequently accused of is the lie of the a at the same time as. i'm 100% particular that all those "undesirable cats" had some trama of their lives causing them to set their preserve up better than accepted, no longer that cats enable their preserve down. once again it really is of their blood and instinct to safeguard hostile to conceivable threats, so understand, it really is all of your fault if a cat shows negative reaction to you. YOU provoked it. HE/SHE defends itself hostile to you and sees you as a conceivable probability. for this reason cats will scratch or hiss. it really is you.

I don't think it would be a good time to change her name. It's a sin because I think it would be hard for the cat to get use to a new name at it's age.

If she responds to her name, allow her to keep it.
What's more important, to have a cat that responds when you call her or changing her name where she may not respond to you when you call her just because you want it changed?
