If your cat is purring, he is likely in no distress. Rubbing his head on everything, is merely him spreading his scent. They have a gland on their face, and it is common. You probably have a cat that is getting a little "randy", or a cat that was just really happy about something. Did he get into the catnip by chance?
If he isn't fixed, beware...the spraying may be ready to follow.

Sounds like he was in a great, friendly mood and ready to mark everything with the scent glands in his face. I've seen my males do that tail vibrate thing, and although it does often mean they are spraying/ready to spray they also do it just as some weird habit, since mine are neutered.
Don't worry, cats are just plain weird sometimes! Enjoy it and love on him when he's in the mood.

Typical behavior for a male cat. But better watch him, he might start spraying on things. Having him neutered will take care of that. My male cat has always been an indoor cat but I still had him neutered to prevent the spraying. I didn't have to have him declawed thank goodness. He's never bothered my furniture at all. Of course he's 16 years old now, not much chance of him bothering anything. lol

He is marking you, not spraying you. Before he was fixed he would mark his turf like this. Sometimes his natural instinct will kick in. My Bandito does this all the time, and he was fixed at 6 months and has never sprayed. I raise cats and have seen little kittens do this.

If he hasn't been neutered then he's preparing to spray his nasty musk on everything in sight. Put a diaper on him and get him to the vet for a quick tidy-up.

Cats do strange things all the time. I think that is why so many cultures view cats as supernatural. Felines enjoy freaking out their owners, so you may wish to relax a bit more about your kitty's behavior.
